It Takes an Agenda - Conservatives cannot live by Hillary-hate alone
The American Conservative ^ | November 13, 2007 | David Weigel

Excerpt -

“There’s a big difference between 2000 and 2007,” says John LeBoutillier, a former Republican congressman from New York and the head of Stop Hillary PAC. “In 2000, everyone on the Right hated Clinton and Gore, and we rallied to the guy we didn’t know: Bush. It’s different now. We hate Bush, and we hate the Bushes. We hate watching the Clintons palling around with the Bushes on goodwill tours and the like.”

There is another reason conservatives can’t count on Hillary: she offends and irritates them so deeply that they have trouble actually strategizing against her. They launch attacks, but compared to the carefully plotted Swift Boat strike on John Kerry or the years-long effort to spotlight Al Gore’s strange bragging and fibbing, the anti-Hillary attacks are erratic, grabbing early media attention and then fading out of the picture. Conservatives fixate on long-dormant scandals, like Bill Clinton’s treatment of Kathleen Willey and Juanita Broaddrick, without appreciating that reporters no longer want to chase those stories and that their very mention stokes sympathy for Clinton’s wife.

But it’s all some anti-Hillary agitators know how to do. In July, Sean Hannity told professional Hillary slayer Dick Morris the question he wanted some intrepid hack to ask the candidate: “Do you believe the women that claim that your husband serially abused them? Juanita Broaddrick, Kathleen Willey, Paula Jones. Is that a legitimate and fair question?” Morris repeatedly shook his head and tried to explain where Hannity was going wrong: “Whenever anybody hits Hillary on her personal life, her marriage, or whether she is a lesbian or not, it plays into her hands.”

It would be better for the GOP candidate if Hillary lost in the primaries. But if she wins the nomination, I think the "long-dormant scandals" will re-emerge as a legitimate issue next year.

I think Hillary’s outa here. If not because of her gaffes, because Bill has got to be realizing his “legacy” goes right down the tubes if he becomes the first male “First Lady.”

His ego simply couldn’t handle that.

Thats right, the Republicans can’t run on an anti-Hillary agenda alone.

Bush and other top Senate Republicans ran on a pro-immigration agenda, anti-American free-trade agenda. Among many other agendas, such as McCain’s pointless campaign finance agenda. Trade and ginormous immigration have been entirely rejected by a supermajority of Republicans. Continuing along this same formula will split the Republican vote.

(The absence of immigration enforcment is defacto Amnesty)

I think the "long-dormant scandals" will re-emerge as a legitimate issue next year.

And the most important and devastating Hillary and Bill Clinton scandal was their Chinagate Treason!

Hillary needs to be asked why she had so many discussions and dealings with Charlie Trie, John Huang, Johnny Chung, and James and Mochtar Raidy.

***

Senator James Inhofe/ June 23, 1999

At that time, I spoke of six proven incontrovertible facts...and let me repeat them now:

1. President Clinton hosted over 100 campaign fundraisers in the White House, many with Chinese connections.

2. President Clinton used John Huang, Charlie Trie, Johnny Chung, James Riady, and others with strong Chinese ties to raise campaign money.

3. President Clinton signed waivers to allow his top campaign fundraiser's aerospace company to transfer U.S. missile guidance technology to China.

4. President Clinton covered up the theft of our most valuable nuclear weapons technology.

5. President Clinton lied to the American people over 130 times about our nation's security while he knew Chinese missiles were aimed at American children.

It does appear true that the liberal syncophants do not
care for anything but a full belly filled with empty platitiudes and symbolism.

Democrats would still vote the party
line no matter if they’re in a soup line wearing a sickle
and hammer.

Republicans must offer an energetic, conservative platform
to win elections. Values and integrity play for
Republicans but seem flipant for the democrats.

I believe Rush has said this many times in different ways.

Agree 100%.

As much as I despise HRC and BC (more than just about anyone besides osama and his buddies) we cannot beat them with hate any more than the Libs could beat Bush with hate in 2004.

You need to have an agenda, a platform, a reason to vote for you. Even more so in 2008 mired in a war and a huge spending spree. So far I haven’t seen any candidates with much of a positive message except Romney and Thompson. And both are pretty vague. Ron Paul and Tom Tancredo have some good ideas that need to be incorporated in the platform.

Just being pro-life and anti-illegal and anti-Hillary isn’t gong to cut it.

If we want real change; we are going to have to elect real change. Big Business and Big Government are throwing everything at us but the kitchen sink to control us. You wouldn’t be see these outrageous things happening like Amnesty that keeps on coming; people’s land being taken away only because they can do it.

We need to vote in real change and not what the powers that be want us to do. Not be cause people can win; not because they have money; etc. We need to vote in real people and in every race. Find those people and put them in because it doesn’t matter what race you are; it will be lost if you don’t.

And if anyone thinks we are going to have a civil war; they are wrong. We won’t because big business and big government are taking care of that by bringing in so many different cultures; it makes it hard to stand up. You know the old divide and conquer. So it’s up to us to take these idiots out of power and it can be done.

In other words; I don’t care if you are pink with purple polka dots; if you have values; and most people do; stand up hard for them and get rid of the vermin that doesn’t.

That is universal. People understand values. We need to hit hard and keep hitting. Sure, it won’t be easy. Some people say it can’t be done. Yes; it can. If one thinks we can’t reverse this; yes we can. Our values mean something. Words mean something. Let’s return to what words really mean. TV and the MSM and politicians; etc are great for twisting words. They do it all the time. Let’s put values back into our lives.

We hate Bush, and we hate the Bushes.

No, we don't hate Bush. Plenty of problems exist in the administration, but hate is a strong term for this columnist to employ.

That being said, he makes some excellent points.

"Hating Bush" didn't get John Kerry elected--and by the same token "Hating Hitlery" won't get the Republican elected.

First and foremost, if we cannot defeat a marxist on the issues, we may as well shutter this place and turn it into a museum. I am focused on the issues and I know it's the focus of most people who oppose Her Heinous. That goes for the other RATS in the race as well.

As a practical matter, the Klintoons simply have too much media cover to be harmed by scandal. It's a pointless exercise to think the next scandal will be the final straw after they've survived the others. Not that she should get a pass, but it should not be the main topic when going after her.

It has to be on the issues, and it should be on the issues. That's where the Republicans have lost their way because they've strayed from their core issues of smaller government, spending restraint, and strong defense that includes the border. New entitlements like Medicaid prescription plans, christmas trees disguised as spending bills, and a President and party leadership who want to turn the United States into one large Motel 6 where we leave the light on illegal immigrants are not winning issues for Republicans and are far from the conservative issues that swept in Ronald Reagan and ultimately the 1994 takeover of Congress.

So it's very simple: don't play whack-a-mole with this scandal and that scandal, but instead systematically take apart the head marxist and the other marxists who want to turn this country into Cuba North or Soviet Union West. That is the real scandal.

Guys, I agree with you both but running on the message of anti-Hillary is not going to be enough to win! Running on hate- alone is a Dimocrat play. We're the party of hope, and we better start crafting the message and the policy so the American people have something to vote FOR.

“Trade and ginormous immigration have been entirely rejected by a supermajority of Republicans. Continuing along this same formula will split the Republican vote.”

Exactly right. But while we’re at it, let us not forget anemic tax reform, massive increases in social spending, and a general explosion of pork economics. With Bush, et al, we get virtual Hillary.

Good Morning!

Sean Hannity has been pounding away that theme for a long time. I agree.

There is such a stark difference between what the dems offer verses a strong conservative agenda:

Win the war on terror, seal the borders, improve better and more affordable health care with unlimited economic growth, and stimulus packages, pro life agenda, and continue to preserve the rights and freedoms that made this country great.

The dems have put themselves in our gunsights. We need to pull the trigger.

Morris repeatedly shook his head and tried to explain where Hannity was going wrong: “Whenever anybody hits Hillary on her personal life, her marriage, or whether she is a lesbian or not, it plays into her hands.”

How does this play into her hand? I don't think she can play the victum like Bill, she's total devoid of any sense of charm.

I understand Morris can say this about Bill, but I don't understand him making a like judgement about Hillary?

Who says running against Hillary isn't enough? It worked for the RATs in 06. They had absolutely nothing positive to offer in the way of an agenda. This time, they're running against Bush--nothing else.

However, we have the winning agenda on our side. We've been handed huge gifts. The agenda has never been more clear.

An overwhelming percentage of the American people want immigration laws enforced--huge advantage Republicans.

Americans want to feel secure--Democrats are actually on the side of our enemies and threaten our security.

Democrats will destroy the economy. They have already started touting their huge tax increases--again, advantage Republicans.

One hundred dollar a barrel for oil? Why? Because Democrats are preventing us from drilling for and refining our own oil. There's oil to be had if the RATS would only get out of the way. We also need nuclear power plants. Again, a huge issue for Republicans.

These issues are so simple, anyone can understand them--even Democrats.

“Running on hate- alone is a Dimocrat play.”

While hate alone will not get it... who controls both Houses of Congress and what emotion catapulted them into power?
