The Atheists are going to have to suffer through theology. If you don’t like it, you don’t have to listen.

Mormons believe that they will become a God of their own planet after they die. But have to be married.

Religion effects a way a person will govern. Including Atheism.

“Mormons are Christians who take a different route...”

I can’t agree with you on that - Mormonism teaches a different (false) gospel.

That said, Romney’s religion is not an issue for the nomination, and I think Romney supporters are raising it more than his detractors in order to get the sympathetic “anti-bigotry” vote and to take people’s eyes off of some of the positions Romney has taken in the past.

He’s a tainted candidate whether some view it as bigotry or not. All the name calling in the world won’t change it. Maybe somewhere down the road, Mormon bigotry will be a thing of the past (maybe not), but at this point it is definitely a major stumbling block to many voters (approximately 19 to 37%).

Very well said. Mitt's religion is of no concern to me. That it is of concern to so many voters is. As I have said all along, I have serious doubts that he is electable.

“Yes. Abstract theology is not as important as how that theology is meant to translate into public positions. For example:

1) Romney’s religion believes in God, and therefore that man’e sovereignty comes from God, not government.
2) Romney’s religion believes Christ is divine, and therefore believes that Christian values are not negotiable.
3) Romney’s religion believes that the Constitution was inspired by God, and therefore should in no way be subverted.
4) Romney’s religion believes that every child is a “child of God,” and therefore should be protected.
5) Romney’s religion believes in honoring and sustaining the law, when that law respects our freedom, and that where laws are unjust they should be changed by constitutional means.
6) Romney’s religion believes individuals should be self sufficient and not take government dole, but should help the unfortunate.
7) Romney’s religion believes in the importance of education.
And so on. . . .
Now whether or not Romney lives up to those ideals, that is another question. At least we know what direction Romney’s religion will be pushing him.

And I agree, We should be more interested in Romney living up to the ideals of his religion rather than dismissing him because of his religion.”

Exactly, actions not lip service, fact is even Hillary taught at a Methodist Sunday School, it’s what she does that disqualifies her.

I cna give Mitt slack just due to where he was a Governor, hardcore Liberal Land MA, but that does become stretched when issue after issue in the past he waffled on.

He still is my #2, I like Hunter, he just doesn’t seem to be making it on up that hill though, and for all of Paul’s actual Conservatism, he makes a great insurgent, I doubt severly he will make it to POTUS.

How do you define Christian when you say that Mormons are Christian?

Romney has said several times that “Jesus Christ is my personal savior.” Why would you not consider them to be Christians?”

Um, aside from Mormonism, Mitt Romney is no friend of Christian Conservative issues like embryonic stem cell exploitation, tax-payer funding of abortion on demand, and opposing the homosexual agenda. I found it curious that Mitt sought Utah approval to run as a pro-choicer in Mass.

"Romney is a committed monogamist, a successful governor, self-made millionaire and is fairly articulate.

What's not to like?"

Well for starters, his record doesn't match his rhetoric or his positions right now.

Why do those who question Mitts Mormon faith give Dusty Harry Reid and Orin Hatch a pass, they too are Mormons and do seem to keep their religious beliefs out of their elected office.

Can you think of a credible Catholic candidate that has competed for the Republican nomination?

Sam Brownback is Catholic, but he never had a chance. Not because of his religion.

That is probably also true of minorities and women. If we couldn’t count on any crossover votes, the republican party could never elect either a female or a minority as President.

The problem is that, now that we are running a mormon, if the Mormons figure out that republicans hate them, they will go vote Democrat.

Just like “conservative muslim” might be a thing of the past if the republican party refuses to accept them, and “conservative minority” might be just a pipe dream.

I will state here I will vote for a dead hippopotamus if it would keep Her Royal Clintoness out of the White House. It won’t even take her four years to destroy 200 of American tradition.

Well, at least there is one here who feels the same way I do. If Romney is the candidate and all the negative things will keep the Republican out of office, put Hitlery in, to heck with you. That is stupid.

"Giuliani’s Catholicism is about as fervent as John Effin’ Kerry’s and Teddy The Swimmer Kennedy’s."

Righto. Looks like it works for Republicans too. Fervent is a no-no. [BTW the swimmer was never the nominee] So what's the big deal about Romney's religion - not fervent or too fervent?

Because I cannot vote for either of those men, I can make a decision about Mitt next Nov if he wins the nomination.

And BTW, I don’t care for either one of those men either purely on political grounds, Hatch has great moments punctuated by long periods of vapidity....

Is that the threat of the week from the Romney team?... If you oppose our religion we will take our votes and go support the leftists of the other party. Nice.

I don’t have a problem with his religion - it’s his candor that I question.

I couldn't care less if Romney worshipped the sun instead of The Son. The fact that he is a duplicitous, draft-dodging, flip-flopping, closet liberal means he will never get my vote.

True , but that is not what this is about, it's about using his religion to get himself in the news and the back door attempt to say you are a bigot if you will not vote for him,and its really because of his religion. He is so full of BS, the liberal needs to give it up.

I'll ask again, how do you define Christian? More importantly, who do Mormons think that Jesus is?
