Thanks for posting the interview.

Besides Terri Schiavo, this is what troubled me a LOT (arrow by my comment):

‘MR. RUSSERT: You would not?

MR. THOMPSON: No. I have always—and that’s been my position the entire time I’ve been in politics. I thought Roe v. Wade was wrongly decided. I think this platform originally came out as a response to particularly Roe v. Wade because of that. Before Roe v. Wade, states made those decisions. I think people ought to be free at state and local levels to make decisions that even Fred Thompson disagrees with. That’s what freedom is all about. And I think the diversity we have among the states, the system of federalism we have where power is divided between the state and the federal government is, is, is—serves us very, very well. I think that’s true of abortion. I think Roe v. Wade hopefully one day will be overturned, and we can go back to the pre-Roe v. Wade days.’

==>This is what especially troubled me about what Fred said: “I think people ought to be free at state and local levels to make decisions that even Fred Thompson disagrees with. That’s what freedom is all about.”

Should abortionists have the “freedom” to kill innocents?

As important as the 2nd amendment is to me, the life issue is even more important.

And by your “logic,” I should support Rudy because Pat Robertson endorsed him. NO WAY.

“Hunter is my congressman, I respect him and agree with him etc, etc, yada yada yada,..”

This is what makes me go BONKERS.

Countless people know that Duncan Hunter is the most conservative, and most qualified, but don’t have the nerve to support him. If everybody who liked Hunter would support him, he WOULD win.

Fred Thompson is talking about Freedom.

Murder is not Freedom. Fred Thompson has always voted Pro-Life.

If one believes that life begins at conception or considers that other people believe that life begins at conception, then abortion is never a freedom, it is just murder.

Basically, that would be taking, from this context, that if a mob decides by local government to lynch a person, then that is a Freedom, and Fred would disagree with it.

But such a lynching would be opposed by a number of laws...

It is not freedom...

You really don’t know what I have the nerve to do, but I will tell you that it isn’t lack of nerve on my part that led me to drop Hunter and move to a better candidate.

In the army we have a saying:

“Wish in one hand and sh*t in the other and see which one fills faster.”

The Army teaches you not to wish, but to analyze and choose correctly, and to know when to move.

I have been following politics as a hobby for quite some time and did not even know who Duncan Hunter was until this election cycle, Ron Paul either for that matter. What does that tell you of his ability to capture the hearts and minds of Republicans who do not follow politics as I do? Duncan has been in this race twice as long as Fred and he is going nowhere. Ron Paul has more supporters that Duncan based on the polls.

I like all of Duncan's positions, but he just doesn't move me. I am quite often told how naive I am, but I am not naive enough to back someone to the point it hurts my party. When and if the day comes that it becomes obvious Fred can't pull this off...I will support the candidate chooses (not with vigor mind you, but I will vote to stop Hillary). Our Country deserves better than that! That is what the primary season is all about…flushing out the best of the best.

With each position paper Fred releases, I am more intrigued and more convinced he is the leader the Country needs right now. You are either being naive or stupid...pick one. I'm not being cruel, but realistic.

When I saw in the news what Weyrich said, I was shocked...
(like I was when Robertson endorsed Guiliani)

I cannot believe he would level such an acquisation. It was really a cheap shot.

BTW - I’m not committed to any candidate at this time. So, I’ve got no axe to grind.

“Just to clarify, you are referring to George W. Bush, not the guy who shoots political contributors (Cheney)... “

Not at all, I meant that this is the guy that was brought in to get Roberts on the court.

NATIONAL REVIEW; “Waiting on Fred” Aug 27 2007

“The Supreme Court, and judicial issues in general, are Thompson’s strong suit. Not only does he have the background-the Watergate investigation, the Senate Judiciary Committee, private practice, and the job of guiding John Roberts through his confirmation hearings-he also knows the conservative legal stars who would likely be candidates for the Court in coming years. But he won’t name names, beyond the men already there, “I like Roberts and Alito and Scalia and Thomas” he tells me. “We’re in a heck of a lot better shape because of Roberts and Alito, and one more gain would put us in even better shape.” Should he become president, Thompson would undoubtedly try to nominate that elusive fifth conservative.”

And "if wishes were horses, beggars would ride." Not gonna happen. Not enough people know that Hunter even exists.

I was totally against the Judge in the Terri case and posted often my feelings when it was happening. I also believe that if Fred had been our Governor that he would have done everything he could to make sure that Terri lived under the care of her loving parents.

My dad was in the Navy, and taught me not to give up.

Giving up never wins anything.

John Kerry didn’t give up when he was at 4% 3 weeks before the primaries, and conservatives are tougher than liberals. Well, at least some of us are.

“When I saw in the news what Weyrich said, I was shocked...”

Hugh Hewitt did some of the same today, he was really angry and was rough in his interview of David O’Steen the director of NRTL.

After the interview Hugh was getting a little nasty about the organization, one that he had strongly supported until yesterday.

I always look at people that are the first ones to accuse another of something very carefully. More often than not they are the ones that are in violation of the accusation.
Greasing palms...kinda makes me go hmmmmmmmmm.

You should pay more attention to politics, then you would have known who Fred Thompson was for about the last 33 years, like the rest of us.

Here in San Diego Hunter is unknown to us, we recognize the name when we see it and we know that he is a congressman in the area but he has no real recognition here, his 26 years in Congress was a long nice career and now he is retiring.

This campaign is a nice goodbye to a good man and it is a way of promoting his son’s campaign to take over his seat which I am happy with.
