"There is a currency in use in Austin, Texas that shops accept as legal tender to make purchases of food, gas and some merchandise. It is suppose to be gaining some ground." I work in Austin. Can you direct me to where these places are, and what they accept as currency?

Nope. That was the Liberty Dollars. There was a RoT dollar for a while, but it wasn’t backed by anything. Even some of the HEB’s in Texas took Liberty Dollars.

Those are the aforementioned warehouse receipts. Supposedly, you could, at any time, exchange the paper bills for face value of the precious metal listed on the bill.

Why do I get the feeling that this is about fraud, not minting a legal alternate currency?Probably for the same reason you felt that the killing of David Koresh's followers by the FBI was about drugs and child abuse

Actually, considering their antiestablishmentarian view point, they would be highly unlike to put out coinage with an avowed socialists likeness on it.

The problem with the paper bills is you have to trust that whomever runs the Liberty Dollar will honor their printed gold or silver value. They were selling those as though there was a backed up with full faith and credit value.

These traitors need to be marched across the DMZ into North Korea. Then you think that any merchant that issues a gift card should be marched across the border to North Korea too. What a maroon.

a dozen FBI and Secret Service agents raided the Liberty Dollar office in Evansville.Evansville, Indiana? That's where I am and there nothing on the local news about it. Furthermore, the Federal Building is about 3 blocks from me and except for a couple of Federal Marshalls taking a smoke break, it's quiet as a churchyard this morning.

Waiting to see how many posters are AOK with this theft of private property by our government.I am waiting to see whether any theft actually occurred, or whether this internet dude is making up a story to cover his inability or unwillingness to deliver the merchandise people paid him for.
Madalyn Murry O'Hair pulled a similar scam: defrauding "hard money" investors in silver and gold and claiming that it was because the government was persecuting her for her militant atheism.
I wonder if Bernard Von NotHaus (certainly not his birthname) is defrauding "hard money" investors in silver and gold and claiming that it is because the government is persecuting him for his anti-war rhetoric.
