“...the world is warming faster than predicted.”

Good. Maybe it won’t hit 22 below at my mountain getaway place this winter.

It’s above zero now. It was -6 earlier and is +4 now. The sun is setting so that is probably about it for the day, weatherwise.

And I am supposed to believe that they can predict 20 year from now, when this caught them by surprise.

Every single year of my life, it has gotten warm in the spring in the northern hemisphere and in the fall in the southern hemisphere.

What they don't tell you is that most of the what little increase there is, comes in the Winter, extending the growing seasons, and giving those that need heat in the Winter a tiny break on the heating bills.

There is no noticeable increasing during the Summer averages.

A little vivisection is required:

“The report found if current trends continue the world’s temperature will rise approximately three degrees celsius by the end of this century, relative to pre-industrial temperatures - well above what are considered dangerous levels.”

There is absolutely nothing to support the predictions that temperatures will rise. Neither that they will fall. But the article itself says:

“The report, prepared by Dr Graeme Pearman, former head of the CSIRO’s atmospheric research unit, found temperatures and greenhouse pollution were rising faster than forecast by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).”

Therefore their last predictions were wrong by their admission (again). Weather is a major component of climate. One would think that if the computation model existed to predict these chaotic events that they would work for NEXT WEEK. They don’t, by demonstated proof, they don’t.

“The report also says that recent scientific work suggests the capacity for the land and oceans to absorb carbon dioxide emissions is declining.”

What work? Tell us, show us your findings. Why are Hansen’s codes for his models not published? In real science the researchers show their work.

“This science report shows that it is even more critical than previously thought that we act quickly to reduce greenhouse pollution and make the transition to a clean-energy economy.”

Why? It is 1 degree C? That is about 3 degrees F folks. Are they saying that the civilized world can’t adapt to a 3 degree change given one hundred years (assuming that there is validity to their predictions which there is not)?

— Excellent point. Plus they can’t tell us the weather for next Tuesday with much certainty, but they KNOW what the climate will be in 25 years.

Eskimo leader Ronnie Coolwater refuted the report’s claims by stating, “Eskimos are well prepared to craft igloos out of alternative materials such as soil, branches and whale blubber.”

Coolwater explained the situation at a conference on global warming in Vancouver, Canada. “As long as our whale blubber holds out, we’re golden.” He added, “Seriously, you can do everything with this stuff.” He then graphically proved his point by driving his whale blubber-fueled Eskimo car home to a whale blubber dinner, prepared by his wife, Jane Coolwater, who is herself eighty percent whale blubber.

Suppose its true. What do we do about it?

China, Japan, Brazil, India and other major polluters are not going to sacrifice economic growth to reduce global warming. So, it falls on the USA which can do little to combat GLOBAL warming. Instead, Gore, Clinton, etc will use this as an excuse to raise taxes and give their friends tons of cash.

End of story.

There is no noticeable increasing during the Summer averages.

Actually, there has been NO global warming since the El Nino peak year of 1998.

For nine years now, temps have been stable, NOT increasing, but decreasing in fact just slightly. So, I have no idea what they are pretending - unless they use a time-weighted average ans are plotting the total rise since 1972.

No, wait - make the base 1980.

1990? Every shortening of the time frame - with the same final temp, will make the rate “seem” higher.

I have to keep laughing at this.
The History Channel's A Global Warning is the latest comedy title from the dingbat contingent which can't seem to find serious stuff about which to make "documentaries".

I liked it better when they made Godzila and Rodan scareflicks with the cardboard skyscrapers.

We got to start stopping all activity by the planet earth on itself, and the sooner the better!
I used to think nobody was that crazy.

If Hansen's models were worth a bucketful of spit, he could input the weather for the 1901-1910 decade and predict the weather for 1911-1920.

It can't. The model is easily, demonstrably and fatally flawed, incomplete, inadequate, delusional... whatever you wish to call it.

It's all irrelevant.

Note, despite the headline, the report says that greenhouse gases are increasing more rapidly than expected. Not that temperature is increasing more rapidly than expected.

Purely from memory, Skylab crashed earlier than expected in 1977 or 1978 because the Sun heated up the atmosphere, expanding it, creating drag, etc. The term "Bermuda High" became well known because of baseball being played in sweltering mid-90 degree temps.

Then I distinctly remember the Winters of 1979 and 1980 as being unusually cold, at least in the NE. The main advantage being that it killed off those dang tent caterpillars because of the extended deep freezes.
