Senator John Edwards will be the first presidential candidate to picket personally with Hollywoods striking writers, according to the Writers Guild of America on Thursday evening. Edwards will join picketers at NBC Entertainments headquarters at 3000 W. Alameda Ave., Burbank, Calif., on Friday.
Edwards first issued a statement of solidarity with the writers on Nov. 6. "The striking Writers Guild [of America] members are fighting an important battle to protect their creative rights. These writers deserve to be compensated fairly for their work, and I commend their courage in standing up to big media conglomerates," Edwards said in a statement, joining other Democratic front-runners Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-N.Y.) and Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) in supporting the writers.
As someone who has walked picket lines with workers all across America and as a strong believer in collective bargaining, I hope that both sides are able to quickly reach a just settlement," he added.
TOPICS: News/Current Events
KEYWORDS: demagogue; edwards; strike; writers
And if that doesn't work, he can start a class action suit, right?

Not the usual freaksome news that I usually ping you to -- but I thought this was still a very interesting little story about The Silky Pony and the depths he'll stoop to.

The striking writers and Edwards do have something in common: greed and avarice.

I don’t like any strikers and I don’t agree with what he is doing. However, if he was going to picket, why doesn’t he picket with a blue collar strike? You know, they people he works so hard for in the other America.

This is so phoney.
He will spend enough time with the strikers to complete the photo-op. Then he will return, at his convenience, to his comfortable home knowing that he has no financial worries at all.
Growing up, my parents were union. Going on strike meant that they had to put in 8 hours/day on the pickett line, then had to go to their temporary job for another 8 hours to make ends meet, along with the tiny union strike stipend. We ate a lot of macaroni and cheese during the strikes.
I wonder if John Edwards ever had to work a 16 hour day. I wonder if he’s even had macaroni and cheese.

The days of the unions supporting the lowly, hard-working underpaid salt-of-the-earth fellow are gone. The unions, having destroyed the car industry, are now going after nurses and other people making in the 6 figures, in order to swell their treasuries and try to maintain relevancy and a place at the political table.
