Having the pre-eminent blue water navy in Europe is like having
the pre-eminent bobsled team in all of Jamaica.

And that was 25 yrs ago. Did not the Royal Navy recently announce
that it would retire its a/c carrier fleet leaving one carrier in service?

And no, I did not give to nor do I give to terrorist organizations.

Nice work mate. You avoided all of my facts by posting random sentences about historical events you really don’t seem to have read into. Please, get a history book and read into Afghanistan and Gallipoli.

“Here’s an interesting one: Gallipoli”.

Here’s an interesting one: Battle of the Kasserine Pass. You won’t find a country on Earth that hasn’t lost a battle or even a war. This includes the US-you don’t need me to elaborate.

“You guys even lost to the FRENCH”.

Is that the level of your historical analysis? Let me guess, you were first in line to order ‘Freedom Fries’. Well, the US has lost battles to arrow -firing Indians amongst others. It doesn’t prove anything. I have the utmost respect for the US and its military.

“You’d be speaking German right
now if the idiot Hitler had not declared war on the US immediately following
PHarbor!”

Wrong again. Hitler didn’t have the sea assets to successfully invade the UK without complete air superiority (which he never gained: See the Battle of Britain). He doomed himself when he looked East to Russia.

“Superpowers don’t have friends; they have interests.”

That is exactly correct.

Don’t assume that your correspondent here is a rational adult. Americans who have actually answered their country’s call to military service are second to none in their respect for the traditions and skill of the British military. On the other hand, a 14 year old school boy, hiding in the basement so his mother won’t know he skipped class, might be expected to claim to be a military champion of greater skill than the Royal Anglians.

13th generation American?

Am I supposed to be impressed? One of my ancestors signed the Dec of Independence. My ancestry line married into his line but what the hey.
Others ancestors were in GA in the late 1600s. So what is your point?

“sit down MV”

Make me.

Thank you for your comments. I have a great respect for the history of the US and US military heritage (dating back to the tough pioneers of the War of Independence)

“Hard to keep track of all the defeats the Limeys have suffered since 1776.”

Please, please, don't point out our miserable failings at war. Don't tell him about how we should have gotten involved in WW1 years earlier on the side of right. How we let our military degrade pathetically between the world wars. Don't remark our intelligence blunders that lead to Pearl Harbor. Also, don't bring up or pathetic initial performance against German Panzers in Africa, or how we never fielded good armor for most of that war. I hope you don't mention our lost battles in Korea, or Vietnam, or the massacre of our Marines in Beirut. It would be kind also if you would forget about our anti-insurgency tactics before the "Surge".

Thanks. All the stuff over the last 100 years as a world power is kind of embarrassing. I can't imagine the list of failures some jerk might mention if we had power for 400 years like the British Empire.

Thank you for your comments.

You're very welcome. Now it's time for a pint of something top-fermented. I'm not picky, as long as it's got too much hops.

Well, given that their are only 2 or three blue water navies in the world, and that their are certain criteria one has to meet in order to be considered a blue water navy. Its force projection and all that stuff.

Yes, true we are getting rid of our valiant Invincible Class, and replacing them with two stonking great 60,000+ tonners, the Queen Elizabeth Class. To be protected by the Type 45 ADD, which is going to be the most advanced surface warship that ever set sail on the high seas.

I reckon you have got an answer for everything. But don’t just take our UK word for it, read some of the posts from fellow US’ers in this thread that don’t take kindly to your vernacular.

The UK has an unparalleled military heritage.

Dating back several thousand years, I might add.

Fine and heroic work. Fine troops.

"Others ancestors were in GA in the late 1600s."

Well welcome, newbie! Most of the fighting was done by then. 1620 here, thank you. Besides, I wouldn't be proud of having a bunch of CONVICTS in Georgia being part of the family tree. LOL

btw ... 'sit down' means 'stand down' to non-active military.
