What scam? They guy is selling coins, and people are trading them for products and services. The truth is that the Federal Government is claiming an exclusive right to scam people with their worthless paper dollars, and doesn’t want that scam exposed by allowing people the right to use sound currency.

"Free Republic rules are that the complete original title must be used, when posting."

There was a much more accurate story, with a title that correctly represents the facts on Worldnetdaily (as usual)

Then shouldn't you be posting it...?

Barter is fine. He was also printing paper money based on how much metal he had stashed away. I’ll print a certificate for you and tell you that it is backed in gold.

If he thinks that fiat money is worthless, then why accept it for his coins? If he won’t accept barter for his coins, then he doesn’t *really* believe his own purported philosphy.

It’s funny, if Ron Paul’s name wasn’t mentioned, this thread would be about how the government shouldn’t have raided the business. lol

"You should be paranoid if you are minting your own currency and selling it to others as legal tender."

You apparently don't understand the difference between money and currency. What the Feds illegally confiscated was constitutionally protected and mandated real money, while currency is a representation of money. Any currency that is actually backed by gold or silver in the amount of it's face value is quite legal.

Aren’t there at least a dozen ETF’s on Wall Street that are doing the exact same thing?

How come the FBI ain’t breaking down the doors at COMEX?

I wonder if they could just claim the coins are “non-legal tender”

No reason to. The constitution defines gold as the only legal tender.

“It’s a scam, and a good one”

Damn, I need to start making a list. Nearly everything I buy isn’t worth what I paid for it.

I am literally astounded at the yawning chasms of ignorance by posters here who assert that any coinage which would compete with the fiat money of the fed is "counterfeit"

They're not as ignorant as they pretend to be. Each and every one of these is a deliberate deceiver here. Check out their posting history and you will see what I mean.

" it’s historical fact that governments debased their coins"

Yes, ours started doing so immediately after LBJ was re-elected.

Here is the law that I believe they are accused of breaking, or at least one of the laws.

http://law.onecle.com/uscode/18/486.html

Liberty Dollar creates coins and tells people to use them like money, in place of the US dollar. They call it a legal, functioning currency. However, they also include a disclaimer that their currency isn't "legal tender".

So they sell their currency to be used just like legal tender, but they want that tongue in cheek disclaimer to protect them from prosecution.

I guess that approach will get evaluated in a court of law in the not so distant future.
