A new Gallup poll of the national Republican race shows Rudy Giuliani's support slipping to its lowest level since before he entered the race. The survey of self-identified Republicans and Republican leaners has Giuliani leading the GOP contest with 28 percent – down from 34 percent in the Gallup survey taken two weeks ago. Fred Thompson is second with 19 percent, John McCain is third with 13 percent, Mitt Romney is fourth with 12 percent, and Mike Huckabee is fifth with ten percent.
Giuliani's support reached its highest point in Gallup polls, 49 percent, in March. In the months since, it has moved around in the mid- to low-30s range. Of the other candidates, McCain is down a bit from recent Gallup polls, while Huckabee's ten percent is three points higher than it has ever been before. Finally, Ron Paul is at five percent, which matches his previous high point, reached last month.
I like that scenario.
I don’t see Romney being that strong, but I can see how that Fred might come out on top if he is.
Don’t count Fred out in the Midwest.
All bad news for Rudi is good news for conservatives, even more for so-cons.
My guess is that Thompson takes every southern state with the exception of Florida, and then selects a Veep from one of the other nominees not-named-Rudy.
I would suspect that he better take more than the south or is that enough? Conservatives do believe that the South is all we need but I just think we need more to win the entire thing. Do Fred only need five states to win????

And lots of those non-Giuliani responses do NOT have Rudy as choice # 2. Thin the firld out a bit and he’ll be stuck at 30-35 and will not go higher. The numbers are just not there for him, ——and I’m a guy who likes Rudy somewhat, and WOULD definitely vote for him in the general.
The irony for Rudy is, the better things go in Iraq, the LESS attractive Rudy becomes. He becomes less necessary, since security is his only serious issue.
Exactly. There are 'way too many variables right now to predict anything with any hint of certainty. That's why I base my support on the candidate's positions instead of how I can blurrily guestimate their electability. With so many candidates and so many undecided, unless/until the frontrunner consistently polls above 51 percent the race looks wide open to me.
The good news is, that's the truth if my candidate is down. The bad news is, it's still true when he's up. Time will tell. :)

It is hard for me to believe that people use polls the way they do. Less than 400 people surveyed nationwide—statistically, that can’t even register as on the relevance scale, but people will use it to influence how they vote?

In public? Rudy is like hotel room pay per view porn. Nobody admits to buying it but somebody is, it’s a multi billion dollar a year industry.
Nobody here admits to supporting Rudy, but obviously some Republicans out there do. He has a double digit lead in the polls despite our efforts.
Conservatives were on a winning streak. When they run as unapologetic conservatives we win. The formula works.
Now they want to run as baby killers, nanny staters, compassionate conservatives, increase spending, add new entitlement programs and just hope the same people will continue to support them because they have an R next to their name.
Find some other sucker. I’m not going along with it. The letter R means nothing to me other than the initials of Ronald Reagan.
Fred might make it yet.
I think a few people, at least, are slowly starting to figure out the truth about Giuliani.
