An anti-illegal immigrant sentiment is taking hold in the Houston region, according to a new Rice University survey showing that most white residents in Fort Bend, Galveston and Montgomery counties favor punishing employers who hire undocumented workers.
The survey, released Thursday, reflects how contentious the illegal immigration debate has become and provides a fresh glimpse into regional attitudes about a subject that's increasingly becoming a major presidential election issue.

An awful lot of Blacks, Hispanics and Asians in my area feel the same way so it’s not just a “White” thing as the MSM would have us believe.
Here we go again. This will taken as proof of rampant xenophobia. Yet, while it’s okay for blacks, hispanics, Chinese, and every other minority dominated culture to want to preserve their heritage somehow whites with a European heritage will be seen as evil for wanting to preserve theirs.
Notice he doesn't deny that "hispanics are being bashed (for being the cause) for all the problems in society" but simply shrugs it off as though the "need" for immigrants outweighs the "problems".
Hispanics have an European culture. Exactly what is your European culture? Shouldn’t we just develop an American culture?
Not according to today's definition. Hispanic is a seperate culture/race. Just look at a Census form.
Nor do they equate themselves with any European culture. If you have proof to the contrary I would like to see it.
As far as an "American" culture that already exists. It's those that advocate a "new America" that are trying to change the culture.
|We are now one of the largest Spanish-speaking nations in the world. We're a major source of Latin music, journalism and culture.
Just go to Miami, or San Antonio, Los Angeles, Chicago or West New York, New Jersey ... and close your eyes and listen. You could just as easily be in Santo Domingo or Santiago, or San Miguel de Allende.
For years our nation has debated this change -- some have praised it and others have resented it. By nominating me, my party has made a choice to welcome the new America.
Our future cannot be separated from the future of Latin America.
As I speak, we are celebrating the success of democracy in Mexico.
George Bush from a campaign speech in Miami, August 2000.
Here is an excerpt of a good critique of that speech:
In equating our intimate historic bonds to our mother country and to Canada with our ties to Mexico, W. shows a staggering ignorance of the civilizational facts of life. The reason we are so close to Britain and Canada is that we share with them a common historical culture, language, literature, and legal system, as well as similar standards of behavior, expectations of public officials, and so on. My Bush Epiphany By Lawrence Auster
“shouldn’t we just develop an American culture?”
I believe that has already been accomplished. If you mean turning that into a third world culture, then we are on our way.
Anyone who thinks it is just whites who are against illegal immigration should check out www.dontspeakforme.org.
For many a turning point came when illegal aliens started waving flags of Mexico and other Latin countries and demanded perks.
Also, the blacks and mexicans who are on the welfare/entitlement program dole need to wake up and realize that there’s going to be a lot less of the pie going to them as the illegals start grabbing their “share”.
Further: How do we develope any thing other than an hispanic culture when 80% of immigrants both legal and illegal are hispanic? What happened to the melting pot? Is it now restricted to a "chili pot"?
I agree with you. After all, Hispanics are predominantly Roman Catholic.
"62% agreed that illegal immigrants should be granted citizenship"
“Anyone who thinks it is just whites who are against illegal immigration should check out www.dontspeakforme.org.”
That did my heart good to see that site. I love especially that there is a Citizenship Resources that includes English Language Training, Care and Handling of the US Flag, the US Constitution, and the Pledge of Allegiance.
These are immigrants...whom I wholeheartedly and unabashedly support and encourage. Big difference between them and ILLEGALS!
God bless them and may they speak up more.
“Blacks have suffered from immigration and illegal aliens.”
Preceding generations of African-American voters did it to themselves.
They voted lock-step for Democrats in favor of NOT enforcing immigration
law for decades...
long enough that some Republicans decided to get elected by following
the lead of the Democrats.
This has led to a sad situation for blacks today. They are paying a
high price for the unbending loyalty of their forbearors to the Democratic Party.
“God bless them and may they speak up more.”
We do all the time but we are not heard....
ILLEGAL ALIENS AND THEIR APOLOGISTS ARE ANTI-IMMIGRATION
And the other 41%?
Or just sleepwalking?
“And the other 41%?”
Illegals or employers that hire them.
Heres my standard post. We can do something about Illegal immigration.
RICO Citizen Recourse
Private persons and entities may initiate civil suits to obtain injunctions and treble damages against enterprises that conspire to or actually violate federal alien smuggling, harboring, or document fraud statutes, under the Racketeer-Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO). The pattern of racketeering activity is defined as commission of two or more of the listed crimes. A RICO enterprise can be any individual legal entity, or a group of individuals who are not a legal entity but are associated in fact, and can include nonprofit associations.
Heres what Ive been pushing: its time to file Racketeering, Influencing, and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) lawsuits.
RICO lawyers could turn it around in a few years and MAKE MONEY at the same time. Im surprised they havent done it already.
In the absence of enforcement, we can get the word out in the meantime that there is money to be made in filing RICO lawsuits against employers who hire illegal aliens.
Employers would have no trouble shutting down the border if they could get sued by someone under the RICO statutes for hiring these people in the first place. The next time an illegal alien kills someone in a drunk driving accident or somesuch thing, Im going to point out that the victims family might be able to seek compensation from the employer under these statutes in the hopes that it would catch on. If this did catch on, would see such a swift backlash against illegal immigration that no employer would go near these people and theyll all simply want to go back home.

Hunters criticism of Thompson over this issue is well aimed. We need someone in the white house who isnt a johnny-come-lately on this issue.

Did you consider reading the article at the top of the thread?
"Can I help you find something, young man (whose wrists are disconcertingly inflexible)?"
"I'm looking for the latest Ann Coulter book."
She visibly paled, then took on a reddish cast. "We keep those on that shelf over there", she squeaked while simultaneously pointing and backing away. True story.
What on earth are you talking about?
The Brits are tolerated only because of close blood ties within families and the fact they speak passable English from time to time.
Funny. I still don't know what your point is.
Read “W”’s words. That’s what I’m responding to.
Okay. I still don't get it. W says nothing about men in dresses...
Doing drag is a big thing on their TV shows.
Strong cultures always win out in the end. Weak cultures die out. That is how it works in the real world. Why worry?
Yes, in fact, I did. But your quote didn’t mention the qualifiers they stated that you conveniently ignored in your statement, like the requirement that they speak English and have no criminal records. The fact is that your statement as written in your post is nothing but a lie, as proven by the article to which you refer.
All of these polls thru-out the past few years include the qualifiers. Additionally, all the legislation that has been considered includes the qualifiers.
The qualifiers are automatically assumed to be part of it.
When was the last time you heard someone say the sun is rising in the east? Nobody uses the qualifier "in the east" because everyone knows the where the sun rises.
There are other accepted qualifiers that I didn't mention and that you are not aware of.
The polling percentages vary by state. The percent supporting amnesty will be higher in California than in Georgia.
Democrats support amnesty in higher percentages than Republicans.
Likewise, hispanics support amnesty more than whites.
Another accepted qualifier is deportation. While the poll mentioned in this article indicates that 48% of GOP respondents support amnesty, it doesn't mention that about 30% of GOP respondents support mass deportations. While the 30% may vary(25%-33%) thru time and place, all of the polls indicate that a significant number of GOPers consistently support deportation. Consistently enough to be an accepted qualifier.
