(IsraelNN.com) The Bush administration is putting pressure on the Prime Minister Ehud Olmert's government to go beyond freeing 500 Arab terrorists and prisoners and halting building permits in Judea and Samaria. It now wants Israel to freeze all building, including units under construction in areas covered by previous understandings to be included as part of Israel after final borders are decided for the proposed new Arab state.
American Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice has put her reputation on the line by planning a conference on the Middle East to be held in Annapolis, Maryland. However, most Arab nations still have not confirmed that they will attend and are trying to squeeze more concessions from Israel.
Shall we treat a disease by telling a patient to sacrifice more of his organs to it? These dreams by the State Department and Rice are just as illogical.
‘U.S. Pushing Israel for Further ‘Good Will’ Moves’
Fer crying out loud! What the HELL does Bush want? For the Isrealis to slit their own throats? WTF, over!!!
This is beyond insane.
One of these days, Israel is going to FINALLY get fed up with the choke-chain around their neck and it will finally get real ugly -— but at least Israel has the capability to make such a move effective and again build some respect in the region such that every crackpot Arab/Islamic kill-crazy will begin to leave them alone.
The day will come.
Bush instructs Condi Rice, not the other way around. His is the final decision.

perfect
G-d...Bush becomes a bigger disappointment with each passing day....
No, she no longer has one. I remember when Condi was very popular around here. A lot of Freepers wanted to to run for president, or VP. You don't hear that much any more.
As far as I'm concerned, her reputation is dead, gone, lost, finished. And Bush is in grave danger of earning a legacy of shame, just like Carter and Clinton and Bush I and that ship in the cartoon.
Something is seriously wrong somewhere ...
They’re playing with very dangerous fire. They’re forcing Israel into a very tiny corner and you can bet the islamics will start another war soon after getting a new terror base protected as a “country”.
Good grief, what is wrong with Bush and his administration? Increasing domestic spending, the Dubai Port fiasco, open borders, free trade agreements, and now this!!!
I’ll be so glad when he’s gone.
As this proceeds everyone better have a real heavy piece of furniture to hold onto cause the boat is going to be seriously rocked. Get ready for The Lion’s roar, “On Christ the solid rock I stand...”
What next...C. Rice will ask the Jews to just up and leave Israel??? Would that be concession enough???
And what’s worse, it might seem to work ...
at first ...
(if they’re successful at creating a Pali state)
The President's willingness to pursue what is a bad move for some advantage bigger picture, however, is colored -- I suspect greatly biased -- by that willingness of that Department and all the lobbies and interests that support it. This is much as a carpenter, wearied and tired on the job, might reach for the hammer only because it is what he is most familiar with, and not because it is the right tool.
She’ll urge “restraint” on Israel’s part as the Qassam’s fly into Tel Aviv from this new Pali state.
Why in the world would "we" be pushing Israel for any "good will" towards the same socio/economic/religious philosophy that wants "us" all dead?
For many years now, I hoped GW's "Religion of Peace" crap was just for political expediency.
Articles like this really makes one wonder, especially "this one"!
Take it slow there, CF. I'm sure you won't be happy if he's replaced by a 'Rat!
Sorry, but that’s not correct. By Bush’s own words he wanted a Pali state in 2002; a little over a year or so after taking office.

“More than five years ago, I became the first American President to call for the creation of a Palestinian state. “
I think the Saudis are pushing this “peace plan”
Imagine if Rice scheduled her conference for Annapolis and only Israel showed up.
That’s not clear to me. The fricking State Department goes on as if elections didn’t exist.
Or if nobody showed up ... it would be hilarious ...
This is going to be interesting, to say the least ...
“These dreams by the State Department and Rice are just as illogical.”
Excuse me! Just who does Rice work for? Seems to me its an open borders lover of all thing Mohammedan, TROP George Bush. Now tell me, just what is illogical about Rice doing exactly the sort of thing that has motivated George Bush for years...seeing that we all become dhimmis of Mohamedanism?
The election can’t come one single day too soon!
Those who would call themselves part of "Palestinian State", and those Bush would call part of such a "state" have proven themselves unable to be a state among others. They voted for a government committed to terror and the destruction of Israel, they have continually engaged in acts of terror, murder and war. They are unable to maintain a peace withing their own boundaries.
Yet you are right -- Bush sticks to a vain hope. Continued it is illogical, it is poison, it will corrupt his own integrity.
I speak to say he should be such a victim, that for the sake of keep a rotten foot, he would leave a gangrened limb in place demanding that whole leg surrender to it, rather than cutting off the foot once so dear.
The State Department is like the shoe salesman -- who sees only the foot to be shoed, and will not have one less. And Bush overly regards their advice, for the ruin of all.
BTW, just about all the current GOP presidential candidates are distancing themselves from the Annapolis initiative.
No, first the Jews have to present all the women and female children as slaves, then all the Jewish men and male children would have to be put to death. THEN the muslims and arabs might feel like negotiating...
What I'd like to know is when will the arabs and muslims actually be expected to live up to the very few "guarantees" they've made over the years, but never bothered implementing, and why THEY never have to give up anything. Heck, they won't even go as far as recognizing Israel as a legitimate state, let alone a Jewish one.
Mark
Israel would be better off without any US ‘aid’, stolen from taxpayers, and without these sorts of diplomatic interfernces...
His dad still lives. He respects his Dad’s works, more for that. His Dad, so I think, was the great friend of the sheiks.
Rice is going by Bush’s orders.
And it’s always been a bad idea.
That’s at least something positive to hear.
“It now wants Israel to freeze all building, including units under construction in areas covered by previous understandings to be included as part of Israel after final borders are decided for the proposed new Arab state.”
So freeing 500 terrorists is not enough, instead they’re to stop all building not only in areas under discussion but even in areas not under consideration???? I’m not certain insanity begins to describe the depths of this betrayal. It’s as if God has allowed a spirit of deception to take hold of this administration.
IIRC the West Bank area under discussion if given to the terrorists would leave Israel only a few miles wide at one point near her midsection. If the terrorists could drive a columm into Israel only a few miles deep they could bisect Israel making defense logistically very difficult, in effect dividing Israel into southern and northern halves. That would be a nightmare.
Flyed Rice! Where is the flyswatter?
bad idea to divide Israel, I mean.
And now a reply from Ms. Emily Litella:
“What’s this I hear about Bush asking Israel for further “Good Will” movies? “Good Will Hunting” was a very bad movie. And why should Israel make any sequels? There are enough leftist movies out there already. I go to see movies that make me laugh, not to tell me how to vote! Next, they’ll be telling Israel to help Michael Moore, a man who is so fat that Japanese whaling ships often...
“No Emily. Bush is asking Israel to make further good will moves.”
“Oh, never mind. But that’s a very bad idea too. Those Palestinians celebrate their little boys being blown up. My little Arnold once fell off his bicycle, but I didn’t go around dancing with a rag on my head.”
Is this action separate from or part and parcel with our war on terror? That is, do the two have the same motivation in common (such as making the ME safe for our oil-producing allies)?
How does one explain what we put Israel through given our war on terror?
I’m no defender of the state department. I just think Bush gets off easy at times because folks focus on Condi as if it were her policy being implemented.
I don’t doubt that State does offer up some disgusting advice, but it’s important our President be up to the task of understanding if what it does propose is appropriate.
Whatever the exact case here, I believe we agree wholeheartedly that Israel is getting the shaft.
That pi—es me off! It a good ally of ours vs a terrorist organization(s).
Very important to remember this. Thanks.
FMCDH(BITS)
F15Eagle, I’m going to play devil’s advocate and more or less sound off against what I said earlier.
I don’t hold the State Department or Bush guiltless here.
I know what State pushes, I just think Bush is where the buck stops.
Both the State Department and Bush are making mistakes here IMO. And you were right to point out Bush’s proclivity to sympathize with the terrorists on the West Bank and in Gaza.
Seems as if a pathetic attempt to appease the mooslimbs in the Middle East.
And we all know how well that works.
I agree with that. Believe me, it’s a big beef of mine.
I do get somewhat uncomfortable when peopel focus exclusively on Condi though, because Bush is the CIC.
“Flyed Rice! Where is the flyswatter?”
Stupid is as stupid does.
agreed
Not another grain of sand.
