BELGRADE, Nov 19 (Reuters) - Serbia is warning the West ahead of a new round of talks on its breakaway Kosovo province that a declaration of independence by the Albanian majority would lead to new secessionist moves in the Balkans.
"If the independence of Kosovo is recognised, it would not be the final stage of the disintegration of the former Yugoslavia, but the first stage of new disintegration and secession in the Balkans," Serbia's Kosovo minister, Slobodan Samardzic, said.
Samardzic, speaking at a conference on Sunday, Samardzic did not spell out where these new breakaway moves would occur.
But some analysts warn a declaration of independence in Kosovo may have a domino effect, with the first victim being Kosovo itself as the Serb-dominated north of the territory breaks away to join Serbia proper. ... Some Serb politicians say ethnically divided Macedonia could also be affected. A rebellion in 2001 by the country's 25 percent Albanian minority was put down with Western mediation, but tensions remain.
In the West, there is fear that they could worsen if Kosovo is denied independence.
Serbia believes its offer of wide autonomy for Kosovo would restore stability, order and the rule of law, Samardzic was quoted by state news agency Tanjug as saying.
Branislav Ristivojevic, spokesman for the DSS party of Serb Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica, said on Monday the only proof of objective negotiations would be if Serbia's autonomy proposal was taken seriously.
"Dangers lurk if Kosovo unilaterally declares independence and some countries recognise it," Ristivojevic said.
"The whole world order would crumble, everything that was built in the past 50 years would be meaningless. All the flash points in the world, not just in the Balkans, would erupt".

Ping!
In 1999 there was nobody willing to listen to anything on this one. Today it seems that the Republican rank and file “get it” on Kosovo, but that republican leaders don’t and our feral state department doesn’t. Anybody have any ideas as to what there might be to do??
The clinton mess continues to fester.
Pray for W and Our Victorious Troops

Civilian advisors and foreign service can stay to console each other when their allies turn on them. Meanwhile, I'll just chuckle over the great job of peacekeeping the EU can manage in its own neighborhood.
(Maybe the US could parachute Weasly Clark in to provide them his astute leadership & local experience)
“The clinton mess continues to fester.”
Excuse me??????????? Just who is the biggest supporter of Mohammedan Albanians in the entire world? Why, none other than TROP President, George Bush! Don’t blame Clinton for this now. Clinton has been gone for years. Bush has had seven years to get it right about the Mohammedans and his only answer is independence for the Albanian terrorists in Kosovo and support for every form of terorism in the creation of a Palestinian terror state out of parts of Israel, including Jerusalem.
Pray for George Bush, indeed! I’ll pray for our country; let his devil/moon god worshipping Mohammedan buddies pray for him!
Just Muslims doing what Muslims do.
Then ask yourself why so many of those @ssholes ended up holding key posts in the Bush administration two years later.
"War on terror," my @ss. This government is building a f@#%&ing empire -- and they really don't give a sh!t if that involves supporting radical Islamic regimes around the world and allowing millions of Mexicans to pour across our southern border.
The demise of the Serbs is because of uncontrolled migration by the Islamic hordes. No surprise they want their own government. We can see this already happening here. A country within a country, now a government within a government.
Migrant leaders agree to create a permanent parliament in the U.S.

We should be helping the Serbs, not the damn Albanians.
The mess in the Balkans is a direct result of centuries of ethnic interclass warfare generated by and directed by the occupying Ottoman Turks.
