Tancredo wants one tongue - Candidate confronted by Arabic speaker
Concord Monitor ^ | November 18. 2007 | SARAH LIEBOWITZ

Describing the United States as "the last best hope" for carrying on the ideals of western civilization, Republican presidential candidate Tom Tancredo called last night for an end to the nation's "bilingualization" and "Balkanization."... Tancredo's comments didn't go unchallenged...."I speak the same language as the people that flew into the towers; I speak the same language as all the Iraqis we are killing; I speak many languages, and I'm proud of it," said Siham Elhamoumi, 22, who recently graduated from St. Michael's College in Vermont..."Am I the enemy?" Elhamoumi then pulled her shawl over her head, so it covered her hair....

"Do you take us for idiots, for people who have no appreciation of our history?" she asked. "Perhaps you don't have an understanding of your country right now, of its composition."

Tancredo repeatedly broke in, asking Elhamoumi to pose a question. He finally asked her a question of his own: "Do you believe that we should replace the Constitution with Sharia law?"

"That is below me," Elhamoumi replied. "Do not belittle people's opinions and people's beliefs and people's religions. Do not put one religion above the other."

Tancredo repeatedly insisted that his views on immigration have "nothing to do with race or ethnicity or anything of that nature." His concern, he said, is national cohesion, whether Americans share the same fundamental principles, whether there is "a singleness of purpose about the idea of America."

Increasingly, he said, immigrants are failing to assimilate - to learn English and embrace American values - as they did in years past. As evidence, Tancredo cited the existence of a bilingual newspaper in Iowa. "We are seeing the Balkanization of America and the bilingualization, which I do not think is a good idea," he said....

I hope someone is keeping an eye on Siham Elhamoumi, who also led the anti-war movement at her college.

He (Tancedo) finally asked her a question of his own: "Do you believe that we should replace the Constitution with Sharia law?"

"That is below me," Elhamoumi replied. "Do not belittle people's opinions and people's beliefs and people's religions. Do not put one religion above the other."

I'll take that as a "YES" Ms. Burka. I'm glad Tancedo asked that question straight up and we all noticed how you never answered it.

An islamofascist plant!

If nothing is done to close the 'cultural centers' and mosques and to round up the muslims in America for deportation, we're doomed.

There are plenty of 'moderate' politicians, but there are no moderate muslims. If they're not strapping on the explosives they're contributing to those that do!

This woman, Siham Elhamoumi, is trash and owned property in her country. Yet she insists on the same being true in America. What a dope!

I see that Siham Elhamoumi did not answer the question. I think that question is fair game to any devout Muslim.

"That is below me," Elhamoumi replied. "Do not belittle people's opinions and people's beliefs and people's religions. Do not put one religion above the other."

That's the point. The Constitution is not a religion.

Maybe...however, you still need to answer the question, you terrorist sympathizer.

"Do not put one religion above another."

He should have asked her if she thinks Islam is the best religion, and told her if she says it isn't, she is an enemy of the "holy warriors". He should have also asked her if in Iraq Muslims are killing other Muslims.

Yeah, we should be so tolerant because we know how morally right and upstanding Satanism, Aztec worship and the Thugee cults were right class?

We're so kind to our enemies who want to kill us it should make honest men sick to their stomachs. Who could imagine a president who continues to make 'nice' to these muslim rats while he ignores the tremendous danger to this nation from our porous borders?

Why hasn't President Bush and Vice-President Cheney used the bully pulpit advantage of the offices to which we elected them to rally the American people to force our lousy congress to allow drilling for oil in our own territories and to lay off the oil companies in order that we get refineries built?

We are actually importing refined oil at this time.

The problem is, of course, with our worthless congressrats, but it also lies at the door of the oval orifice.
