T. Boone Pickens Responds to Letter From U.S. Senator John Kerry

DALLAS, Nov. 16 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The following is a copy of a letter mailed by T. Boone Pickens in response to a letter from U.S. Senator John Kerry regarding the Senator's military record and ads in the 2004 presidential election by the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth.

U.S. Senator John Kerry 304 Russell Building Third Floor Washington DC 20510

Dear Senator Kerry:

So glad to hear from you regarding the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth political ad campaign, and an offer I made public at an American Spectator dinner in Washington, D.C. last week. I am intrigued by your letter, and am certainly open to your challenge.

My concern at the Spectator Dinner was, and continues to be, that you and other political figures were and are maligning the Swift Boat Veterans, and I want to prevent this important part of American history from being unfairly portrayed.

In order to disprove the accuracy of the Swift Boat ads, I will ultimately need you to provide the following:

    1) The journal you maintained during your service in Vietnam.
    2) Your military record, specifically your service records for the years
1971-1978, and copies of all movies and tapes made during your
        service.

When you have done so, if you can then prove anything in the ads was materially untrue, I will gladly award $1 million. As you know, I have been a long and proud supporter of the American military and veterans' causes. I now challenge you to make this commitment: If you cannot prove anything in the Swift Boat ads to be untrue, that you will make a $1 million gift to the charity I am choosing -- the Medal of Honor Foundation.

                                                  Sincerely,

T. Boone Pickens

Now you can expect Kerry and his supporters to say Pickens has changed the conditions of the offer and declare victory.

Maybe, (when pigs have landing gear!) Kerry could explain the points raised by DBrow:

Link

"Kerry allows Navy release of military, medical records

Here ya go, Kerry signed his 180 for full release (to Kranish) on May 20, 2005. Nobody but Kranish has it, and he read everything and found nothing new, just more praises and laurels for Jon. WE don't get to see it but the Boston Globe has it all locked away somewhere.

But, Jon Carry can honestly rebut your demand by stating that he DID "sign the 180" on May 20, 2005.

"The evil Swiftboaters are after me again..."

They WERE released in proper accordance with the SF 180- and he filed with the proper agency- but did not release to the public. He can do that.

The person holding the data is that Globe reporter, not Kerry! Kerry put onto his release forms that everything went to Kranish (and if you read the article, the only thing Kranish says is that there are many more commendations than Kerry had mentioned).

The Globe guy is the one who must release them to the public. He is under no obligation to either release, or keep them, he can shred them if he wants to or has wanted to since 2005.

Kerry was clever in doing this, he signed the 180, released his records, and now it’s not his fault nor responsibility if we can’t pore over them in detail..."

No doubt Kerry found some point or points in the Swiftboat narrative he thought he could disprove and beat Pickens's broad challenge, "offer of $1 million to anyone who can disprove even a single charge of the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth."

If Kerry could disprove anything he would have done it by now. Why hasn't he sued? All we can ever expect from John Kerry is a dishonest and shifty behavior like he did on Form 180 issue.

Pickens has changed the conditions of the offer

Well he most certainly has, hasn't he? And he looks like a moron for doing it.

Forgive my being uninformed, but what was the original offer?

“Now you can expect Kerry and his supporters to say Pickens has changed the conditions of the offer and declare victory.”

It appears that he has. I wasn’t there when Pickens made the challenge, but everything I’ve read said all Kerry needed to do was prove anything said was untrue.

Kerry is not that cleaver. Kerry also stated that everyone would see them. Kerry is still a liar until he releases them to the public.

Pickens changed the conditions. Sounds just like what the dems do on a regular basis.

Did he really change the conditions or simply outline the terms of his original offer?

I think Pickens is correct in asking for official records instead of something Kerry might come up with or have a “witness” say. I don’t think it changes the bet. It defines the level of proof.

From AP:

Texas oilman T. Boone Pickens' [offered] $1 million to anyone who can disprove even a single charge of the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth.

[snip]

Pickens issued his challenge Nov. 6 in Washington, while serving as chairman of a 40th anniversary gala for American Spectator magazine, according to two Internet accounts of the gathering and Kerry, who said he spoke to people who were there.

It's possible Pickens dropped in a bunch of disclaimers like a radio ad for used cars at the end of his speech but I doubt it.

I think he is going to succeed at looking like more of a boob than Kerry, if that's possible.

I don't know much about Pickens and I really don't care.

What's great about this is that Kerry walked right into it. If he tries to disprove anything, he'll look like an idiot.

On the other hand, Picken's asking Kerry to put up $1-mil on his bet just makes him look scared. That has nothing to do with proof.

Pickens needs to turn his guns on the real threat to America - Hitlery.

But now he wants to specify what proof means. He made the offer to ANYONE who could prove any of the allegations wrong. Now he makes a list of all the items he wants, but that was not the original challenge.

Official military records could establish facts and proof, more so than Kerry’s personal journals, which wouldn’t prove anything, as Kerry could be self-aggrandizing, or fantasizing in those anyway.

Looks like Pickens is trying to change the rules.

“Here ya go, Kerry signed his 180 for full release (to Kranish) on May 20, 2005.”

Sorry, But as I understand it, traitor Kerry never signed for the full release of his military documents. It is my opinion that he was given a less than discharge due to his treason in cooperation with the North Korean Communist leaders in France and in helping to kill hundreds of Americans and many thousands of South Vietnamese. But that discharge was changed when Jimmy "Idiot" Carter gave all the scum pardons.

But of course it is just my opinion. I agree with the Swift Boat people totally.
