Wrestler Ric Flair supporting Mike Huckabee
CNN ^

Posted on 11/19/2007 10:20:26 PM PST by bshomoic

COLUMBIA, South Carolina (CNN) – In the race for presidential endorsements, Mike Huckabee has the kitschy pop culture celebrity vote on lockdown.

First it was martial arts hero and "Walker, Texas Ranger" star Chuck Norris, who appears with Huckabee in his first TV ad.

Then hard-rocking hunting enthusiast Ted Nugent jumped on the Huckabee bandwagon, citing the Republican's support for second amendment rights.

Now, Huckabee is getting ready to rumble: wrestler Ric Flair, a.k.a. The Nature Boy, is supporting the former Arkansas governor in his bid for the White House.

CNN has confirmed the former WWF and WWE star wrestler is on board with Huckabee, and will co-host a campaign tailgate with the candidate at the South Carolina vs. Clemson football game on Saturday afternoon in Columbia, South Carolina. More details are forthcoming.

What is amazing is that (1) more people will actually recognize the wrestlers name than Zig Ziegler’s - who has also endorsed Huckabee, (2) more people will change their impression because of this endorsement ....

If Isaac Washington (Ted Lange) supports Huckabee, I think every other candidate should pack up the tents because the race is over. Gopher never packed a punch like Isaac.

So? Why would anyone care any more about a motivational speaker than a professional wrestler? They're both professional entertainers.

Flair is certainly a “Hollywood” type in many ways, but hardly a has-been-— whatever one thinks of his profession, it can’t be denied that, in the eyes of its fans and its workers, he remains at the top of it; Nugent and Norris may work in Hollywood from time to time, but could hardly accurately be said to be of it in any sort of denigrating way... And it should be noted that they, too, remain on the cutting edge of their professions (e.g. Norris’s impressive skill at Machado school BJJ).

That Huckabee has garnered their support has been by far the most impressive thing I’ve heard about the old John Edwards sound-alike class warfare mongering semi-socialist populist.

Guessed you missed it — Jimmy’s now a conservative columnist and had dinner with Rush Limbaugh and Ann Coulter a couple of weeks ago. Rush mentioned it on his show.

Nope, not joking.

Huck is taking all the steam (well if their actually ever was any) from Fred daily. Huck is helping Fred to not win this thing. Duncan will come up from the back and speed toward victory (hopefully). If not than Romney will take it all!!! Thank God for the Huckster!!!!

Zigler doesn't give actual "advice."

Umm, actually, his books are full of advice, such as dealing with a plethora of objections, the importance of voice inflection, attitude, choice of words, and moral character. He also gives advice other successful salespeople have suggested. My sales have increased by using techniques he's suggested, and I would suggest his Secrets of Closing the Sale to anybody who is in the world of selling.

That being said, again, I disagree with his support of Huckabee.

My Dad was a salesman (and therefore Zig=God), so I read alot of his books and lecture tapes.

I went to school with one of his Grand Kids in elementary. One year during a bookfair at school, Zig came to speak to her class. The author they had scheduled for my grade sucked, and they were nice enough to let me go to the lecture for the 9th graders (Zig’s). He seemed genuinely surprised and delighted that a 10 yr old would be hyper excited to meet him, and actually want to talk about his books (Which I had devoured.) Said he wished his granddaughter and her friends liked his stuff so much. He seemed ancient 20 years ago, and we are blessed he’s still around.

Zig Rocks :)

Personally, I’m waiting for Huckabee to look straight into the camera and say, “Whether you like it, or don’t like it, sit down and look at it, because it’s the best thing going today . . . WHOOOOOO!”

However, if he makes comments about his opponents having to ride Space Mountain all night long, I might get a little creeped out.

The other pubbies better hope Richard Petty and DW don't get on the Huckabee bandwagon!

If he does,Mike will probably come close to sweeping the south.

’ I can just hear him campaigning right now...”to be the man you gotta beat the man - Whoooooo!”. ‘

Here are some other quotes I found:

“If you’re gonna walk that mile, you gotta walk that aisle.”

“I’m a limousine ridin’, jet flyin’, kiss stealin’, wheelin’ dealin’ son of a gun. WOOOO!!”

“Space Mountain may be the oldest ride in the park, but it has the longest line.”

“This ain’t no garden party, brother, this
is wrestling, where only the strongest survive.”

“Girls, you can’t be the first, but you can be next.”

November 20, 2007: The day campaign endorsements officially became absurd. Mark your calendars.

It’s only a matter of time before supposedly-serious people wearing grown-up clothes start talking about which candidate has been endorsed by Eric Cartman or Spongebob,

I always detested the bad guys, especially the Four Horsemen.

My favorites were Mr. Wrestling 2 and Tony Atlas.

I used to split my Saturdays watching the Braves (lose) and wrestling, and you could find wresting on a few stations during the day on Saturday.

I’m not a Huckabee guy, but this could actually be significant.

I’m a pro-wrestling fan from way back and I’m always surprised at how many folks underestimate the reach of its audience - kind of like NASCAR.

This could give the Gov. a nice bump.
