Global Warming, Inc. - Al Gore, Silicon Valley, and venture politics
OpinionJournal.com ^ | November 20, 2007 | The Editors

Al Gore no longer needs to make claims about creating the Internet, because the former Vice President deserves much of the credit for creating an entire new industry--the global warming business.

And like the energy barons of an earlier age, Mr. Gore has the chance to achieve enormous wealth after being named last week as a new partner at the famously successful venture capital firm Kleiner Perkins. No fewer than three of his new colleagues sit on the Forbes list of wealthiest Americans. If Mr. Gore can develop market-based solutions to environmental challenges, we will cheer the well-deserved riches flowing his way. On the other hand, if he monetizes his Nobel Peace Prize by securing permanent government subsidies for nonmarket science projects, he'll have earned a different judgment.

"What we are going to have to put in place is a combination of the Manhattan Project, the Apollo Project and the Marshall Plan, and scale it globally."

With an alliance of private industries, Wall-street financiers and Government subsidies, Gore plans to run the planet, plain and simple.

Newsflash: He’s already an MoB for Apple Inc. I think their shares have done OK since he joined ;-) I don’t think he’ll ever have the family wealth and old money ties of GW, but he’s not exactly hurting for money.

Yep. It’s a maddingly ingenious scheme, one that only a floridly grandiose and corrupt politician could concoct. I fear that he may well be successful.

A regional market for this technology almost exists in California who plans to lead the nation in establishing practical alternative energy and cutting emissions. California could be the seed bed for the world. The state is shutting off coal and has never been comfortable with nuclear. If the state’s legal fight with automakers and the EPA is successful it will force a retooling of vehicle manufacturing across the country. But they will need thousands of big windmills and more efficient solar panels. And this whole thing may just turn out to be a big sham—a profitable one.

Market based solutions? Back when I was taking economics courses, Algore's strategies would have been called "rent seeking".

We are living in an time when the politicians are grabbing peoples wealth and freedoms to enrich themselves and the lies of global warming are but one way to accomplish the purpose using the mushminded fools who believe lies and delusions that will eventually destroy all of us.
Global warming is not man’s fault, it is simply a change in weather and has happened before in ma’]s history on the earth, but the satanic left knows that the useful idiots of the leftist and rino persuisions will believe anything because they are godless and attempting to replace Him and truth and justice and mercy with their own neo nazi foolishness. World wide socialism appears to be overtaking all the earth and that is but man’s final and futile attempt to replace God with lies.

Back when I was young, people would have laughed at fools like Gore and all those who make monies off such foolishness. Stupid is as stupid does.

Which leads us to suspect that maybe Mr. Gore has been hired by Kleiner Perkins for more than his technological knowhow, investment acumen, or global vision. His new partners may have hired him for the more prosaic task of getting 60 Senate votes to keep those taxpayer greenbacks coming.

First Colin Powell for whom a "special" kind of partnership was created because all he brings to the party is an ability to peddle global influence and access.

Now Gore is brought in to hook up an IV line directly from the taxpayers to people who really have more than enough money (and the reputations to raise as much as they need) to fund their genuine VC functions.

Obviously the goal is not normal, good clean profit making. It is totally political--especially for people who really do mean to run the planet.

If Kleiner Perkins wants to go any lower, they'll have to buy a submarine.

I remember when Kleiner Perkins was a venture capital company.

The above is my original reaction to Powell/KPCB and I was obviously underestimating the extent of political motivation in his hire on.

IMO he is part of the left wing cabal working within our government and intelligence agencies--undermining our country as we have known it, turning it into something Stalin would be proud to claim. I was underestimating the extent of the evil we are facing and they are making big time progress

Even more discouraging than Rev. L. Ron Gore and his Church of Climatology is the fact that the local electric company (PG&E) has a HUGE new campaign championing that baboon’s LSD-induced rantings. Check it out at http://www.wecandothis.com for ways you too can stop global warming. My favorite piece of tripe on this page is the “carbon calculator”.

Selling nothing for something is the dream of marketers, renting the planet a piece at a time from someone who doesn’t own it must be the holy grail.
