WASHINGTON — A key turning point in the U.S.-led war against the Iraqi insurgency came even before last winter's troop surge, FOX News has learned.

(snip)

The Times reported that days now pass without a car bombing, unheard of in the height of the insurgency. The number of bodies appearing on the streets has fallen from a peak of 35 eight months ago to five a day, and homicide bombings dropped to 16 in October, half as many as last summer and down from a peak of 59 last March.

Interesting choice of words.

We used to hear about car bombs non stop from the MSM when they were going off daily.

Now that days pass without a car bombing, the good news is unheard (not reported) by the MSM.

Kafir Magic

The intelligence analysts have played a largely unheralded role in keeping casualties down. The army doesn't like to publicize what their geeks are doing, but those databases and analysis systems produce more than impressive 3-D graphics of who is doing what in the combat zone. These systems have been very accurate at predicting where the enemy will strike next, who the enemy is, where they live and what shape their morale and combat capability is. These predictive systems make sure that the limited supply of MRAPs are used in areas where there are the most IEDs. Captured terrorists are perplexed at how the Americans manage to be one jump ahead. Most attribute it to some kind of "kafir (non-Moslem) magic." It certainly can't be "God's will." Iraqis are more inclined to believe in magic, than people in the West. But there are Islamic radicals on the many pro-terrorist message boards, who have advanced degrees in math and statistics, that know quite well what the Americans are doing. So far, these savants have not been able to convince their fellow radicals of the importance of trying to spoof the Americans predictive tools. Spoofing isn't easy, and you need a skilled and disciplined force of troops to carry it off. The terrorists have neither. Setting off roadside or suicide bombs remains the favorite terrorist weapon, even as these tools become less and less effective.

As long as the U.S. has the intelligence advantage, the enemy will continue to find themselves outmaneuvered and out of luck.

The Arabic writing on the map says “Hizam” which means belt and the map indicate four “Hizam” or belts, northern, Southern, Western, Eastern, but I agree with you these are more of sectors than belts.

Message from the Democrat Congressional Leadership:

We are launching an investigation into whether any terro, er uh insurgents were tortured to obtain that map. We are sending subpeonas to everyone in the Pentagon, everyone in the White House, everyone in Iraq and everyone else we can think of. The New York Times will be assisting our investigative team to reveal as much sensitive information as possible. This is just another miserable failure of the Bush/Betrayus policy. How many more Americans have to die to get maps?

If we learn about torture used to obtain that silly map, or even if we don’t, we will bring articles of impeachment, court martial, articles of clothing and magazine articles against the Bush administration and its cronies. We will also return all the territory back to the insurgents that was improperly seized in violation of the terror, er uh insurgent’s constitutional rights. Hopefully, we can restore France’s confidence that America is not a rogue nation.

Harry Reid
Nancy Pelosi

Absolutely my FRiend:

The map reads as follows:

Next to the arrows pointing from the far outside to the first outside circle, they have the names of different districts in Baghdad such as "Abu Ghraib", "Khan Bin Saad", "AL Mahmodiah".

Now between the inner and outer circles they have divided it them into different sectors that they call it "Hizam" or belt, and they have what they call "Western belt", "Northern Belt", "Eastern Belt" and "Southern Belt".

The inner circle is also divided into three regions or sectors and they use abbreviation for these regions that I do not what it stands for.

5 bodies a day? Sounds about like Detroit - for a city at least twice the size of Detroit also. Not bad!

"I don’t see 4 rings in that map. I see 1 ring."

There is an outer belt (dotted line), two major belts (the circles) and a lateral belt (through the center).

Notice the date of obtaining the map, it was after June 2006, when Zarqawi was killed, just few months before the elections. It took time to develop the counter-strategy, the "surge", which relied more on the intelligence gathering and troop placements than the increase in troop numbers, chiefly credited with turning the "war".

That's exactly what Rumsfeld was talking about, the importance of intelligence, especially one coming from Iraqis disaffected with al-Qaeda and finally convinced by resolve of President Bush that we are not going to leave them at the mercy of murderous jihadists and internal score-settlers.

These things take time and strategy, not simply mindless throwing of "bodies" and money at the problem, which is characteristic of liberals. Especially with a people who have been traumatized and butchered for decades and didn't know who to trust and how to trust, and who have been left defenseless by Americans before, throughout the 1990s.

“Rollin’ Rollin’ Rollin’

Keep movin’, movin’, movin’,
Though they’re disapprovin’,
Keep them doggies movin’ Rawhide!
Don’t try to understand ‘em,
Just rope and throw and grab ‘em,
Soon we’ll be living high and wide....”

Now, if we could just roll up some of the undesirable elements inside our own beltway (D.C.), we’d be doing better.
