A life sentence for rape? Did he actually rape the girl or did she follow his “commands”?

Does seem a bit harsh for the particular offense. He should have just stolen documents from the National Archives and received a slap on the wrist.

If he was just a run of the mill pedophile..... he would be out in less than 10 years.

But if we add religion into the mix. Even bad religion..... 2 life sentences.

And who says our judicial wack-jobs don’t discriminate against religion?

Update
Drom the Deseret Morning News:
ST. GEORGE — Fundamentalist LDS Church leader Warren Jeffs has been sentenced to two consecutive terms of five years to life in prison for performing a child-bride marriage.

The sentence was handed down this afternoon here in 5th District Court by Judge James Shumate.

Jeffs is expected to next go to the Utah State Prison, where state corrections officials said he will undergo a five-week orientation course that determines where he will be placed at Point of the Mountain. Prison officials have told the Deseret Morning News they believe Jeffs will ultimately end up in the maximum security unit for his own protection.

The Utah Board of Pardons and Parole will ultimately determine how long Jeffs spends in prison. He will automatically be given a parole hearing in 2010, but that does not mean he will be immediately released.

Jeffs, 51, was convicted in September of two counts of first-degree felony rape as an accomplice, stemming from a marriage he performed between a 14-year-old girl and her 19-year-old cousin at a Nevada motel room back in 2001.

The victim, Elissa Wall, objected to the union but was told by Jeffs to go back and give herself "mind, body and soul" to her husband. Wall eventually left the marriage when she became pregnant with another man's child. She has also filed a multimillion dollar civil lawsuit against Jeffs and the FLDS Church.

My thoughts:
The sick bas___rd authorized, aided, abetted, and directed the serial rape of underage girls within his ‘communities’. What do you consider an appropriate sentance?

Where are the charges against the girl's husband who actually committed the "rape"?

Where are the charges against the girl's PARENTS who endorsed and encouraged the "rape"?

That's right they don't exist because the "rape" doesn't exist either.

Well the girls were underage in that state. A number of states allow marriage with parental consent at 15, and as young as 13 in New Hampshire. It is clear that this was done because Jeffs leads a cult. I am not saying that this isn’t justified, but let us understand what is going on.

Rich islamists are polygamous, and they have upwards of 100 children. So how is it that they can't reproduce.

I’m sure you don’t believe Jeff’s Prophet Joseph Smith committed rape either.

And whether or not YOU think he should call Smith his prophet is not of any concern to me. HE does....Jeffs is following the doctrine of celestial marriage as given by Joseph Smith and practice by every prophet of the LDS Church until 1904.

Polygamist leader gets 5 years to life

Well officially in Islam a man may only have more than one wife if he can provide for all of them equally. Wives can not be reassigned to another man on the whim of some Iman.
The original intent under Islam was for the protection of widows and orphans. Yeah I am not completely buying that explanation. But it is not as off the wall as needing at least 3 wives to get into celestial heaven. By the way I think in Islam women can be admitted into paradise without their hubby’s permission. That is not true in FLDS.

So if he’d simply hooked up and not actually gone through a legal ceremony of some kind, this guy would be good to go instead of going to prison.

But we’re letting some terrorists get off, others get light punishment, and I’m not even talking about murderers, rapists, and various other felony charges.

Something seems out of whack here. I don’t care how he practices his religion as long as he takes care of his family.

I don’t believe in child marriages. I do tend to believe in ‘arranged’ voluntary marriages. Fewer unjustifiable hopes lead to fewer disappointments and divorces.

The original intent under Islam was for the protection of widows and orphans.

The original intent under Islam was for the monopolizing of the wombs of the widows and orphans of the Christians they killed. In this way they converted Christian territory to Muslim territory over time.

Seriously, what the hell is wrong with you?

A child is force to marry her cousin, and she is told that she must do it on pain going to Hell by what she has been led to believe is the next best thing to Moses, and she’s the one you run down.

WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU?

Just d@mn.
