The European Union wants Hashim Thaci, the former guerrilla leader who looks set to lead the government that emerges from Saturday's polls, to avoid any rash moves that could provoke Serbia and its ally Russia. Noting a December 10 deadline for ending negotiations on the future status of the ethnic Albanian-majority province, EU foreign ministers called on Thaci to let the talks run their course, and do nothing to jeopardize international support. "Kosovo should have her independence (but) it shouldn't be an unmanaged unilateral declaration," said Britain's European affairs minister Jim Murphy. Swedish Foreign Minister Carl Bildt said: "We need on this issue a soft landing rather than a big bang. The Balkans is a rather fragile place." ...Serbia considers Kosovo an integral part of its territory and history, and is only willing to give it wider autonomy. Belgrade's ally Russia is blocking the UN Security Council from granting "supervised independence"... Last Wednesday, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov called for the parties to be given more time to reach an agreement. Then on Monday "an appeal was made to the leaders of the Kosovo Albanians to refrain from any action that could destabilize the region," Lavrov's ministry said. The United States has said it would recognize an independent Kosovo, but the EU is divided, with countries like Cyprus and Spain concerned about a precedent that might encourage separatism at home... The EU failed to stop the war in Bosnia and the violent collapse of former Yugoslavia, and officials have expressed hope that good "coordination" with the new Kosovo government will reduce the chances of more unrest breaking out. They also hope that Serbia and Russia will not derail the process.

Hey, why worry? It’s not as if a world war could possibly break out over this... ;’)
From the article:
- “Kosovo should have her independence ....” said Britain’s European affairs minister Jim Murphy.
- The United States has said it would recognize an independent Kosovo ....
It’s only a matter of time now.
Bush is an enabler of terrorists. while Americans are dying at the hands of muzzie murderers, he supports giving them another state. Of course, some will probably say this is just some brilliant plan of his to actually defeat the terrorists
The war over Kosovo has already been fought, and the Serbs lost.
The Russians, for their part, know their limitations and their interests, and their interests are limited to obstructing Kosovo's independence as far as diplomatically possible, while ensuring that doing so doesn't adversely affect the income of the Kremlin kleptocracy.
One threat to the EU is that the US will pull troops out of Kosovo, a long-overdue move (IMHO, it was a stupid move to begin with — ever notice that realistic and thorough diplomatic solutions are never actually tried by Dhimmicrats in the White House before they come out, guns blazing?), and the main reason the US wants an independent Kosovo. Wahhabi interests in Kosovo and Albania are high, and are in conflict with Russian interests.
“Bush is an enabler of terrorists. while Americans are dying at the hands of muzzie murderers, he supports giving them another state. Of course, some will probably say this is just some brilliant plan of his to actually defeat the terrorists.”
What do you expect from a clown like TROP-loving George Bush and the traitors around him? Kosovo is really a side show, an object lesson in the multicultural depravity to which our political elites have fallen; the main event is down on our undefended, wide open southern border where he and his supporters are giving this country away to the Mexicans.
The 2008 election can’t come one single day too soon!
Amen.
How is this supposed to be a threat to the EU?
The Kosovar Albanians are the ones who want us in Kosovo - they've experienced firsthand the folly of relying upon their fellow Europeans to protect them, and we're likely to be there for longer than we were in Bosnia.
Wahhabi interests in Kosovo and Albania are high
Whereas Kosovar Albanian and Albanian interest in Wahhabism is low, and they're not really too concerned with what the Russians think, given Moscow's big brother relationship with Belgrade.
Wrong as always, pancake BOY, and on both counts as well.
You Dhimmis never change, so much for any of you evolving.
Of course the “Kosovar Albanians”, otherwise known as Muslim illegal immigrants into Serbia, want NATO there, otherwise the Serb Army will end their Jihadist base of operations within days.
And I hope you get to see it happen from the inside, pancakes.
You're running at the risk of over-simplifying your argument Hoplite.
