...and pardon these two!! (Border Patrol Agents Ignacio Ramos and Jose Alonso Compean)
The Pittsburgh Tribune Review ^ | Colin McNickle

... & pardon these 2 Saturday, November 24, 2007

The degrading, draconian and disgraceful incarceration of former Border Patrol Agents Ignacio Ramos and Jose Alonso Compean indicates President George W. Bush, the self-anointed compassionate conservative, is capable of stone-cold stupidity. By doing their duty along the near-lawless border with Mexico, Messrs. Ramos and Compean have become tragic symbols of this nation's gross incompetence regarding enforcement of immigration law.

“Taking the word of a drug smuggler over two agents?”
***************************************

Their defense arguments were restricted by the gov’t (Sutton) ,, the jury never heard that the “witness” was a drug smuggler, it was suppressed.

Has anyone asked those running on the GOP ticket if they would pardon the two if elected president?

The last decent President we had was Reagan. Eisenhower was O.K., but no outstanding individual. Nixon was a paranoid lying nut, Ford was a borderline imbicile and RINO, and the Democrats are not even worth criticizing, they were so low and contemptible from John Kennedy to Clinton - losers all.

America gets really bad Presidents for some reason. We were able to become a gerat nation in spite of our Presidents, not because of most them. And, in the past, God was good enough to give a few great men when we really needed them. I think His patience is up.

I’m sorry, but you are apparently ignorant of this aspect of the case. You should take some time to educate yourself before commenting further on his injuries.

If he had been caught the first time, he would have been prosecuted for the drugs that were seized in the van he was driving.

Unfortunately, the two BP agents on the scene were unable to aprehend the single unarmed man, even after they shot him in the backside piercing his urethra.

More unfortunately, they were unable to provide any useful description of the man.

So if you are upset about him not being arrested, you should blame Ramos and Compean for that.

Without catching him, and without the BP agents being able to give a description or identify him, it was impossible to arrest him or to get him extradicted. We only KNEW about him because a report through relatives got back to officials telling of the shooting, which they were unaware of as it had not been reported.

There was nothing lost giving him immunity for his testimony, as there was no evidence available to show he was guilty, without his testimony.

It is fortunate that he was caught committing another crime, and that Sutton was able to get him arrested. He will now serve time, something we all wanted.

It may be amazing that he is well-received, but he is well-received. For all our differences, if he were to offer to come to our republican committee, we would heartily welcome him and thank him for his service to our country, including sticking to his guns so that we may yet win the war in Iraq.

For most people, disagreement about particular policies doesn’t translate to personal hatred or vilification. That’s more of a liberal trait, one I’d be sorry to see conservatives adopt.

By and large the House of Representatives is far more receptive to popular opinion than the House of Lords. But there ARE house members who need flushing.

Bush’s disconnect with his constituency extends beyond Compean and Ramos. There is a an entire litany of decidedly anti-conservative, anti-American, and anti-Republican actions by this President and his administration.

He may stick to his guns on some issues, but I’m afraid I will stick to mine on my assessment of him. History will not be kind to GWB.

When you look at his very low rate of popularity, the only way those numbers can be generated is by subtantial loss of support among his base. While I support the War Against Terror and the War in Iraq in general and his actions in getting us there, I feel there are many people who, like me, question his ability and wisdom in the way he has been conducting it.

Very well, allow me to expand. He was shot in the @ss in February, had his injuries repaired at taxpayer expense a month later and was caught smuggling dope again within seven months. We don't know how many loads he brought across before he was caught. How serious could he have been hurt?

Please, I would like to say that you are ignorant of the facts. It's more accurate to say that you are distorting the facts. The report you speak of was not via family to officials but through his longtime friend who happened to work for the Border Patrol. Someone who himself should be investigated for his ties to drug smuggling.

The border will be protected. It's the will of the American people. Get used to it.
