WASHINGTON, (AP) -- Rep. Bob Filner, D-Calif., entered a plea days before he was set for trial on assault and battery charges over allegations he pushed a United Airlines baggage employee at Dulles International Airport.
At a hearing in Loudoun County's General District Court on Monday, Filner entered a so-called Alford plea to trespassing, according to a statement issued through his attorney. That means he did not admit guilt, but acknowledged sufficient evidence exists for a conviction.
He was fined $100, according to the court clerk.
Filner was accused in the Aug. 19 incident of trying to barge past a female baggage worker into an employee-only area after his bags were delayed. He was set for trial Dec. 4.
The baggage worker, Joanne Kay Kunkel, alleged in a criminal complaint that Filner shoved past other customers, screamed at employees and repeatedly pushed at her. He yelled "You can't stop me," according to her complaint.
Filner apologized in a statement Monday but denied any physical violence.

Yeah, we know who you are!
He's also lead singer for the Guano Apes.
he could have gotten away with it had he punched the Airport Security while saying “Don’t you know who I AM?!
I have to admit to coming close to slugging an airline employee or two. ;)
A Democrat guilty of disorderly conduct at an airport???
The AP mentioning his (D) political affiliation? And in the very first sentence too? Wow.
The “D” is an error only because they are a bit short staffed at the momment what with their Iraq employee charged with terrorism.
Don’t know Norm, that dude looks a bit touched to me. He aint quite right. In the head.
I have some sympathy for the oppressed airline traveler.
Real tough on criminal politicians out there. Maybe if he wore a neck brace, he could have had the fine suspended too.
They want to shove Larry Craig out of the Senate for fondling a bathroom stall. I trust that Filner’s assault and battery on a real human being will get the same treatment. I won’t hold my breath while I wait, however.
