Manish Rajpurohit has been hailed the luckiest teenager in India after he survived being skewered by a metal pole in a bus crash.
The 18-year-old student was riding a bus in Andhra Pradesh state when it was hit by a lorry.
The force of the smash rammed the four foot safety rail into Rajpurohit's forehead and through his skull - only missing his spine by a few millimetres.
Rajpurohit said: "It struck my head and embedded me into the seat. I was stuck there crying 'Help me' as loud as I could."
Brave Rajpurohit had to slide his head up the pole before he could be cut free from the wreckage, but still could not remove the object.
After an hour's painful journey on a rickshaw to the nearest hospital, Rajpurohit was told by doctors there was nothing they could do.
Finally, after a further three hour ambulance ride to Bangalore, Rajpurohit underwent an emergency operation to remove the pole from his head.
Bangalore surgeon Dr Sharan Patil said: "The first thing he said to me was 'Get this bloody thing out of my head'. It's remarkable. It missed every vital part of his brain."
Lucky
Similar to what happened to Frida Kahlo in a Mexico City bus crash when a steel poll pierced her pelvis and just missed her spine.
Hold muh pole alert!
I hope it did not mess up his frontal lobes like that classic case in the 1840’s of a gentleman who survived a similar accident. He turned into a nasty ne’er-do-well.
Either way, something tells me the young gentleman will be making funny whistling noises when he sneezes or coughs from here on.
Oh man, that’s definetly gonna leave a mark!
Son, go buy me a lottery ticket. You’re on a roll.
New nickname: Shishka Bob
They had to wait for the second surgeon to operate, ‘cause the first one said, “I wouldn’t touch that thing with a...”
Thanks, I’m here all week...
I suppose in the corner of the world that has the largest population this is fairly common statistically.
They drive the vehicle to the ER, with the metal pole protruding through the windshield.
The fire department cut the roof open and took off the door and they lifted the guy, car seat and all on to a gurney and rolled him in to the OR.
Uh, not to quibble, but wouldn't all the other Indian teens who weren't skewered by a pole that day feel a mite luckier than this guy?

Wow! I hope that I’m never as lucky as he is!
bump
you are GOOD!
some freepers are just good at the ‘one liners’.
If he wasn’ a democrat before the accident, he probably is one now.
There was a railroad worker in Vermont who had a tamping iron go completely through his brain back in 1848. His name was Phineas Gage. The tamping iron is now in a museum at the Harvard Medical School.
The unfortunate Mr Gage is also the person being referred to in post# 6. His life was very sad after his accident, because of his profound personality changes.
Damn lucky kid.
