Oh give me a break with your Catholic-hating. I’m not Catholic. I’m Lutheran, the original protestants. But I’m no damn fool who just thinks Catholicism = evil, and that the Inquisition was about the Church (it was about the MONARCHY OF SPAIN, using the Church), etc, etc, etc.

Like it or not, Catholicism is the pedigree of all so-called protestantism. And it’s not as bad either now or in the past as earlier protestants successfully made it out to be.

Geesh, you’d think they were Moslems the way your kind goes on.

Neither belongs to Christ and both are evil.

Many thanks for the reference to that background information about the letter to the Pope from the Muslim scholars. It certainly puts this groveling letter into context. Nothing like entering into a dialogue with the world’s most questionable and dangerous religion with an apology, before the talking has even started.

Yale Divinity School used to be the best of the Ivy divinity schools, not that long ago. Jaroslav Pelikan was there, for instance. But it appears to have sadly decayed after the grand old scholars died or retired.

I’m personally sad about that, because one of the best students I ever had was a young black Evangelical student who was in his senior year at Bob Jones University. I taught him in a special summer course. He was Evangelical, but his tutor had converted to Catholicism while teaching at Bob Jones, and that tutor was permitted to remain when he was able to make the required statement, that Jesus Christ was still his personal Lord and Savior.

This black student was one of the most brilliant I have ever taught. He had a particular interest in medieval history and theology. He easily got into Yale Divinity school, partly on my recommendation. Both of us knew the school as it had been. But I suspect he was changed there, since he started talking about deconstruction in his emails to me over the next few years in connection with his proposed doctoral dissertation. I haven’t heard from him since.

But a special millstone should be reserved for teachers of the Christian religion who would do this sort of thing to their students.

It is “go along to get along” cowardice. Embracing evil for the sake of peace is not an option.

These men are totally dead in their sin asking for forgiveness from other men who are also totally dead in their sin.

Show me from scripture how you arrived at this conclusion. (Hint: You can’t.)

Show me in the scripture a passage that suggests that its right and appropriate to apologize for the sins of the ancestors—. (Hint: You can’t.)

There is ample precedent in the bible for people asking forgiveness on behalf of others. I would hope that you've read the scriptures enough to recall at least one of the multiple times that one of the prophets asked God's forgiveness for the sins of Israel. If you seriously don't recall a single one of these instances, please let me know and I will provide a scriptural "address" or two so you can do some reading.

We are called to judge RIGHTLY (John 7:24). Saying someone is dead in their sins because you don't like the fact they asked forgiveness on behalf of others is not judging rightly. In fact, it would seem to be just the opposite.

That list is mostly liberal

Nevertheless, that does not provide scriptural support for ckilmer's claim that they are spiritually dead because they asked forgiveness of others who are spiritually dead.

LOL No surprise here - Rick Warren - the purpose driven democrat.

I’m so pleased NOT to see Billy Graham associated with this ‘list’.

Very good. Now you’re talking. There’s just one problem with your analogy. The prophets are not asking for the forgiveness of long dead Israelis. The prophets are asking for God to forgive living contemporary Israelis.

There is a difference.

Before we “shake your hand” in responding to your letter, we ask forgiveness of the All-Merciful One and of the Muslim community around the world”, they said in the letter

That is pure blasphemy. These are not true Christians. There is only one "All-Mericful One" and his name is Jesus Christ. If they can't handle that, then that should convert to Islam.

John Esposito, Director Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Center for Muslim-Christian Understanding, Georgetown University

Scary stuff! Georgetown has been pimped to the Saudis. That is the very same shiek who gave the $10 million check after 9/11 that Rudy Giuliani tore in half after the "Prince" denounced American policies.

Even more scary is that this same shiek owns 10% of FoxNews.

Well intentioned fools.

As someone else once babbled, "Peace in our time..."

Pandering to terrorists never works.
