Computer Glitch Leads To Brawl At Wauwatosa Kmart (2 People Arrested)

WAUWATOSA, Wis. -- A melee at a Kmart store in Wauwatosa Saturday morning was started by a computer glitch.

The store was running a promotion in which it would give away $10 to anyone applying for its credit card, but the computer glitch led to everyone's application being granted -- bestowing up to $4,000 in instant credit to anyone who applied even if they shouldn't have qualified.

Once word started to spread about the so-called "free money" Saturday, witnesses said things got pretty nuts inside the Wauwatosa store.

"They were having a big fight. Two ladies was jumping a lady over credit cards," witness Sylvester Wilson said.

Nearly a dozen Wauwatosa squad cars responded to the call just before 11 a.m. Saturday for what was called a large fight in progress.

I have a funny image of some manager (who had been worked-over by the IT dept. in the past) just saying, “send the IT guy over and let him deal with it.” :)

Give me a dog any day over people.

Don't lump everyone together. There are good people just like there are bad dogs. I'd bet that if you knew more details about this event there would be clear patterns as to who was involved and why.

Sounds like they accidentally used the subprime mortgage generator.

Has Wauwatosa fallen that far? Besides, who would want a K-Mart credit card?

Reporters NEVER quote people correctly...

I'm sure this was supposed to be:

"They WAS having a big fight..."

Apparently so. It wuld be interesting to know why.

Besides, who would want a K-Mart credit card?

Someone who shops there and who is perfectly willing to steal and cares not at all about ever having a good credit rating and who intends never to pay for the goods they've charged.

I don’t know if they changed it, but I had a Sears card I got for a riding lawnmower (one year no interest - I paid it off), pretty soon I got a letter that I could now use it at Kmart, and not long after that we got another letter saying it was now not a Sears/Kmart CC, but a MasterCard (good anywhere). I cut it up, but I wonder if all Sears/Kmart cards are now open ended MasterCards.

People who have no intention of ever paying the bill.

Mayfair Mall
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Mayfair Mall is a shopping mall located on Mayfair Road (Highway 100) between North Avenue and Center Street in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, USA...

It serves the greater Milwaukee area...

Mall Crime and PGR

The mall has experienced heightened race and class tensions in recent months. In March of 2007, a policy of no unaccompanied minors was instituted on Friday and Saturday nights after a series of disturbances in the mall created a minor public uproar. PGR, an acronym for "Parental Guidance Required", left many feeling that the program was unfairly targeted towards African-American teenagers from Milwaukee who patronize the mall via the many bus lines that end at the Macy's wing of the mall. The following month, a coalition of Milwaukee groups known as ACORN filed over 40 complaints of racial profiling against Mayfair with the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development. This has also caused many teenagers to stop shopping at Mayfair along with many protests and loss of profit.

Cutting it up is not enough. The account is still open and if and when they decide to start charging an annual fee, you will be charged. Call them, cancel the account and ask them to send you verification that it is closed via U.S. mail. They are required to do that if you request it.

***

I feel the same some days about my cat. He’s my best companion. At least I don’t have to worry about him starting a riot. LOL

This is one of many reasons why I won’t shop in any store (other than the supermarket) if I don’t have to at this time of year. I do my holiday shopping online or by phone....more recently, I’ve resorted to gift cards. Heck of a lot easier...you don’t have to fight crowds and you avoid riots.

Exactly. Credit means “free money” to some people.
