WAUWATOSA, Wis. -- A melee at a Kmart store in Wauwatosa Saturday morning was started by a computer glitch.
The store was running a promotion in which it would give away $10 to anyone applying for its credit card, but the computer glitch led to everyone's application being granted -- bestowing up to $4,000 in instant credit to anyone who applied even if they shouldn't have qualified.
Once word started to spread about the so-called "free money" Saturday, witnesses said things got pretty nuts inside the Wauwatosa store.
"They were having a big fight. Two ladies was jumping a lady over credit cards," witness Sylvester Wilson said.
Nearly a dozen Wauwatosa squad cars responded to the call just before 11 a.m. Saturday for what was called a large fight in progress.

I have a funny image of some manager (who had been worked-over by the IT dept. in the past) just saying, “send the IT guy over and let him deal with it.” :)
Don't lump everyone together. There are good people just like there are bad dogs. I'd bet that if you knew more details about this event there would be clear patterns as to who was involved and why.
Sounds like they accidentally used the subprime mortgage generator.
HA!
Live by the computer, then PAY by the computer!
Too freakin’ bad for the KMart and the fiance pimps!
Has Wauwatosa fallen that far? Besides, who would want a K-Mart credit card?
FREE MONEY!!!
Reporters NEVER quote people correctly...
I'm sure this was supposed to be:
"They WAS having a big fight..."
Apparently so. It wuld be interesting to know why.
Besides, who would want a K-Mart credit card?
Someone who shops there and who is perfectly willing to steal and cares not at all about ever having a good credit rating and who intends never to pay for the goods they've charged.
I read stories like this every day about people.....cannot say the same about dogs.
It’s the most wonderful time of the year...
LOL
People who have no intention of ever paying the bill.
Hence the “free money” mentality
Mayfair Mall is a shopping mall located on Mayfair Road (Highway 100) between North Avenue and Center Street in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, USA...
It serves the greater Milwaukee area...
Mall Crime and PGR
The mall has experienced heightened race and class tensions in recent months. In March of 2007, a policy of no unaccompanied minors was instituted on Friday and Saturday nights after a series of disturbances in the mall created a minor public uproar. PGR, an acronym for "Parental Guidance Required", left many feeling that the program was unfairly targeted towards African-American teenagers from Milwaukee who patronize the mall via the many bus lines that end at the Macy's wing of the mall. The following month, a coalition of Milwaukee groups known as ACORN filed over 40 complaints of racial profiling against Mayfair with the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development. This has also caused many teenagers to stop shopping at Mayfair along with many protests and loss of profit.

Cutting it up is not enough. The account is still open and if and when they decide to start charging an annual fee, you will be charged. Call them, cancel the account and ask them to send you verification that it is closed via U.S. mail. They are required to do that if you request it.
Give me a dog any day over people.

I feel the same some days about my cat. He’s my best companion. At least I don’t have to worry about him starting a riot. LOL
This is one of many reasons why I won’t shop in any store (other than the supermarket) if I don’t have to at this time of year. I do my holiday shopping online or by phone....more recently, I’ve resorted to gift cards. Heck of a lot easier...you don’t have to fight crowds and you avoid riots.
Exactly. Credit means “free money” to some people.
Sheesh
What would a dog do with a credit card? Now let's say that K-Mart was accidently giving away cooked bacon, then you would see dog fights.
Are you kidding? Dogs are freeloaders. They never do any work that produces either a product or revenue, they sleep most of the day and all of the night, yet they get free meals and snacks, and free massages any time they demand them.
The only exceptions are true guard dogs and actual cattle/sheep herding dogs. They work for their perks. (Maybe some show dogs, too, if they earn money, rather than just ribbons.
(I am the owner of a Golden Retriever who fits the description in the first paragraph above. So there.)
I forgot the smiley winky face.
Re: Dogs are freeloaders.
Huh? They want to serve. I trained mine to get the newspaper every morning.
At least they weren’t dropping turkeys out of a helicopter.
Maybe they SHOULD be dropping turkeys from a helicopter. Frozen ones.
Stereotype confirmed.
K-Marks got some good stuff when it be free.
I was kidding. See #24.
Sorry.
"As God is my witness, I thought turkeys could fly!!!" -- Arthur Carlson, WKRP in Cincinnati
You forgot hunting dogs who put food on the table and do double duty as guard dogs all year!
Carolyn
Do cancel the card.
yes - Sears used Citigroup (I think) for their card administration, and with the diminishing returns on Sears cards, Citi took it and turned everyone’s into Master Cards.
I called the cancel-my-new-card number on the new card they sent, then cut up the card (Did you know you can get more than 50 pieces of plastic outta ONE card!!!) (But you have to be moticated! ;-P)
Oh yeah? Well MY dog not only fetches the newspaper, she tears it into tiny bits and pees on it as well! (Good doggie!)
Thanks for posting this one. I live in the area, but FR is the first place I go to catch up on the news. Since I didn't turn on the radio yet this a.m. I hadn't heard about this one. Nothing surprises me anymore when it comes to Milwaukee and the surroundings.
True.
(But everyone who owns a freeloader knows what I’m talkin’ ‘bout.)
P. S. I’m just kidding. Nobody should take any of this freeloader-dogs stuff seriously.
“Someone who shops there and who is perfectly willing to steal and cares not at all about ever having a good credit rating and who intends never to pay for the goods they’ve charged.”
Nice smear of Kmart and people who have Kmart charge cards. I guess Sears, JC Penny, Lowes, Home Depot, etc. are all havens for miscreants to obtain charge cards too.
I did not smear Kmart nor all people who have Kmart charge cards. You have posted nonsense.
( The difference between dogs and Dawgs is the latter work for a living..lol)
The only exceptions are true guard dogs and actual cattle/sheep herding dogs. They work for their perks. (Maybe some show dogs, too, if they earn money, rather than just ribbons.

Service animals (e.g., dogs for the blind) also generate wealth in an indirect way. I have a blind neighbor who is a corporate attorney. He travels by bus every day with his guide dog. So in a sense, the guide dog generates revenue in that he allows my neighbor to go out and earn a living.
But I will say this, even though our pets may not generate money per se, what they do give us is often far more valuable.
I think ‘moticated’ is going to wind up along with ‘series’ and ‘hugh’ pretty soon.
A Blue light special! They even threw in a siren or two!
Did it already. I only got the card originally (years ago) to take advantage of the no interest, which worked out great, and never used it again. But when they sent me an unwanted and unneeded MC, I canceled. I had only kept it originally because Sears is a great place to shop for major purchases.
See my posts #24 & 37. I was just kidding and forgot the smiley winky face in my first post about all that..
Not “They”.
“DEY”
My dogs “payment” of 2 3 cups of kibble a day, and a vet visit now and again is more than earned by his every vigilant guarding of my home, and the fact that while a loving caring pet, will defend with his life my wife and children.
Way I figure it, like every dog I’ve owned, when his time on this earth is done, he’s more than earned his rest, and I’ve gotten the better end of the bargain.
Now, Cats.. .cats on the other hand, are the ultimate freeloader.
Unless you live rather slovenly and have a rodent problem, they bring nothing of value to the proposition other than companionship when they feel like gracing you with their presence.
You got that right.
