If it was a professional sniper, he wouldn't have gotten cold feet at the "precise moment." More likely it was a kid with a laser pointer.

I find it even harder to imagine that a professional sniper would ever consider using a laser.

Quite. Lasers are good for quick acquisition in close quarters. Not useful at distant targets because bullets don't follow long straight lines. A sniper would use a regular optical scope. And they don't get cold feet. :-)

They show that laser dot in movies all the time though, 'cuz it shows up nice on screen and makes for better drama.
