UC Berkeley Ejects Tree-Sitters to Build Sports Center
FOX News ^ | November 23, 2007 | staff

BERKELEY, Calif. — University of California officials have won the legal right to oust a band of tree-sitters who've taken up residence in an oak grove standing in the way of a planned sports center.

But how do you uproot a tree-sitter in Berkeley, one of America's most politically correct cities?

"Extremely difficult," acknowledges campus spokesman Dan Mogulof.

As the protest nears its one-year anniversary, plenty of people have suggestions: Fire hoses, skunk spray and tranquilizer darts are among the thorny ideas Internet posters have planted.

So far, the university has moved cautiously.

The university wants to remove dozens of the picturesque trees, called evergreen coast live oaks, to build a $125 million training facility for its Golden Bears athletic teams.

There have been scuffles between police and tree-sitters; and campus officials have put up chain-link fences around the grove. University lawyers have told a judge they are considering pruning lower branches — to make it harder to ferry supplies up to the protesters.

Both sides say they don't want a treetop confrontation.

My suggestion: build a fire around the trunk and watch the tree sitters climb down quickly.

One guy with a chainsaw could have solved this problem in 20 minutes.

The issue is simply having the nads to to do what needs doing, and not worry about a bunch of handwringers.

‘tis easy - first turn on a cell phone blocker in the grove. Next.. Wait, there won’t be a next - if they can’t gain fame by sitting in a tree, they’ll all go away. It’s all about the blog, man...

said it before... say it again... import some Lone Star State fire ants and deposit at base of trees... shouldn't take long to get those smelly hippies to come down from the branches (being so P.S., I'm sure they wouldn't consider throwing Amdro on the little critters).

Tree hugging, granola eating, smelly hippies... OWNDED.

Throw a large rope around the top of the tree and attach it to a wench. Pull very tight then release.

Problem solved.

No problem, if I cut the tree just right, I'll bet I can get the protester's body to land in the hearse, how many tries do I get again?

Have a big barbecue up wind. I lay odds most of the them are vegetarians and vegans. Invite the military to eat for free. And a nice country band. It is near Christmas time so we need to have a carol sing-a-long. We would need to import most of these people and things from places like Fresno. This might have some unintended consequences. Berkly is a beautiful area and could be soon repopulated.

Whatever Berkeley does with this bunch, I hope we get lots of film and photos. You just can’t ask for better ammunition against hypocritical libs than messy confrontations with their own like this one.

One of the nicest traditions started by the so-called Civil rights Movement of the 1960s, that we all so worship to be politically correct and eracist, has been the disobeyance of law, the courts, the police, and the civil order. Yes, you might say that red light running was legitimized in the 1960s South by the self righteous Northerners who invaded it to seek “social justice” or whatever the euphemism was at the time for anarchy. We were a law abiding nation before then, not far behind the Swiss in our civility.
