KHARTOUM, Sudan (CNN) -- Hundreds of protesters brandishing swords and sticks gathered outside Khartoum's presidential palace Friday to vent their anger against a British teacher jailed for allowing children to name a teddy bear "Mohammed."
About 600 Islamic demonstrators piled out of mosques, chanting: "By soul, by blood, I will fight for the Prophet Mohammad." Some of the protestors demanded the teacher's execution, according to the Associated Press.
The decision by a Sudanese court to jail Gillian Gibbons late Thursday was widely criticized outside of Sudan as too harsh, with British Foreign Secretary David Miliband saying he was "extremely disappointed" the charges were not dismissed.
In leaflets distributed earlier this week by Muslim groups and seen by CNN, the protesters promised a "popular release of anger" at demonstrations called for Friday.
The leaflets condemned Gibbons as an "infidel" and accused her of "the pollution of children's mentality" by her actions.

I saw the “John 3:16” thing on a truck the other day and thought about what an islamic verse, let’s say, “Mohammed 3:16” would say: “For allah so loved the world that he commanded all his followers to kill everyone in it or, at least, die trying.”
In my paper this morning, this story was on about Page 12 and was also very small.
Absolutely pathetic the way this is being covered.

That said, in my liberal rag (circ. about 100,000) the story is highlighted in a box on the front page and the full story is inside, so it did make the front page in a way.
It was also one of the headline stories on liberal NPR this morning.
It’s the lead story online right now at the Clinton News Network, CBS, ABC, and FOX.

If that was indeed the chant, then I believe they have insulted their prophet. As I understand it, any time they refer to the prophet - eg. by the name Mohammad - they are to praise him. So they should have chanted "...Mohammad. All praise and honor be upon him." Or something similar. Since they have given offense to their religion, in their own narrow scope, they should immediately fall on their swords. ... We're waiting. ... Still.
It is REALLY a great shame that POTUS the peanut cancelled the neutron bomb project, for here would be a perfect target.
Wipe the “people” (I use the term loosely) out and then start over.

I think we are over looking a conflict of cultures that is the most important. This Teacher was trying to prove to herself and the world that Islam is supposedly a religion of peace. I found it incredible that this teacher had to explain to these backward children the concept of democracy and the process of voting.
Didn’t a audio tape of Bin (Shit Head) Laden surface decrying capitalism and democracy? Since Democracy promotes free thought and individualism and the islamic world can’t function in such a world.
So maybe this was about her trying plant the seeds of democracy into this young children’s minds (God knows it pointless to teach it to their parents) and the naming the teddy bear was a good enough reason (for the islamist) to remove her from influencing young children’s minds any further
