Seattle Mayor Greg Nickels, warning that global warming could drown Santa Claus, sent the following letter to Santa:
Talk about thin ice! It sounds like you had one doozy of a summer up in the North Pole, and quite frankly I'm worried.
I read the stories about how the Arctic sea ice shrank to a record low this year and that scientists are pointing the finger at global warming. Some say if we don't do something to cut greenhouse gas emissions soon, the North Pole might be ice free in summer as early as 2030.
Reindeer fly, but can they swim, too?
I for one would rather not find out. That's why we're launching "Operation Save Santa."
TOPICS: News/Current Events; US: Washington
KEYWORDS: agw; kook; letters; mayor; seattle
I couldn't locate the video of the mayors news conference where, not only did he announce the launching of Operation Save Santa, he told kids that if they didn't convert their lights to compact fluorescents that Santa would die and the North Pole would sink and there wouldn't be anymore Christmas.

You’d have to believe in Santa Claus to believe in Global Warming.

What a moron! `What should be done with a person in authority
scaring the h*ll out of little kids? Perhaps, he ought to be brought up on child abuse charges.

Greg N is a buffoon. You can’t believe what any politician says, they just pander to the ignorance of the public supported by an equally ignorant media.
Most people who live in Seattle are pre wired to be non critical thinkers, who decide on emotion not reality.
Good at BS though

Youd have to believe in Santa Claus to believe in Global Warming. There's more hard evidence for the existence of Santa Claus than there is for Global Warming.

I’m soooooo sick of all these doom and gloom global warming dummies that I could just scream.
Am I the only one who remembers being taught way back in grade school that when the dinosaur's roamed the earth the planet’s climate was a lot warmer then it is now and that the earth has been warming “back up” every since the big freeze?
So now either all the scientist's who came before were all wrong, or the hand full of todays doom and gloom all gore cronies scientist's are all wrong. But I suspect it’s the later.
Leave it to old al gore to take a little piece of the truth and spin it in the the greatest scam ever pulled off.
Global warming = Global warming “back up”

Typical tactics of the greenies - exploit the gullibility of small children by playing on their fears in order to instill their extreme propaganda into their minds. They do it in school all the time.

I see a lawsuit looming in the near future. Imagine the trauma that has been inflicted upon the children. Nightmares every night envisioning Santa, Mrs. Clause and the elves sinking into the balmy waters. Smart move Nickels.

LOL. I hear you...the “how YOU should live your life” experts never seem to get beyond the first rush of their emotions to cast a skeptical eye at what they are braying about...thus, fluorescent bulbs are good because incandescents are bad and hydroelectric/nuclear produced electricity does not exist because wind power is good and coal produced electricity is bad. And the Living Green movement is just off its rocker...the current model of efficiency here in Portland is a 1200 sq. foot house with shredded blue jean insulation and a solar power array guaranteed by the salesman to produce all the heating you need for 11 months out of the year...total cost is $750,000...no, wait...its now $800,000...no, $850,000...cost is immaterial because Living Green is good and any other living is evil(unless you live under a bridge and shower twice a year).

Does this used douche think that Santa Claus, a guy that has been flying in the air at what must be light speed long before the Wright Brothers ever did, can gain any new knowledge or benefit from Seattle's assistance?
The mayor should look into what source of power Santa uses, and if that is causing global warming.
