My brothers and I would send the Evel stunt cycle off a ramp at the top of a flight of stairs. It was pretty cool watching it go down like a ski jumper.

That's nothing. In the winter we would build a ramp out of packed snow and ice and jump bales of hay using Flexible Fliers, and in the summer, we jumped over the the little kids in the neigborhood while riding banana bikes over a ramp made from plywood (and broken Flexible Fliers).

In December 2006, Knievel sued rapper Kanye West for trademark infringement in West’s video for Touch the Sky.

Evel Knievel didn't care about black people.

But seriously, kudos to this man, who, IIRC, basically cheated death once back in the 1970s.

The feud between Evel Knievel and Kanye West over the US rappers 2006 ‘Touch the Sky’ music video has come to an end after West’s record label paid the former stuntman an undisclosed settlement last week.

The pair met last Tuesday at Knievel’s home in Tampa, Florida to put a close to the law suit after Roc-A-Fella Records paid the legendary stunter to drop his charges of damaging his long-established public persona.

Knievel claimed the five and a half minute music video where West portrays himself as ‘Evel Kanyevel’ and re-enacts the historic Snake Canyon Skycycle jump was “vulgar and racially charged”.

Evel (not his real name, I know) was always very protective of his name and likeness. I don’t blame him - he made his own fame and paid a high price in injuries for it, so why let someone else profit from it without compensation to him?

Evel Knievel died of natural causes, proving once again that God has a wicked sense of humor.

R.I.P.

Evel Overcome With Good
http://www.christianitytoday.com/ct/2007/aprilweb-only/115-43.0.html

On Palm Sunday, hundreds responded to Robert “Evel” Knievel’s testimony by asking to be baptized on the spot at Crystal Cathedral. Speaking alongside the Rev. Robert H. Schuller, Knievel told the congregation in Orange County, California, how he had refused for 68 years to accept Jesus Christ as Lord. He believed in God, but he couldn’t walk away from the gold and the gambling and the booze and the women.

“I don’t know why I fought it so hard,” he said. “I just did.”

But Knievel knew people were praying for him, including his daughter’s church, his ex-wife’s church, and the hundreds of people who wrote letters urging him to believe. And then something indescribable happened during Daytona Bike Week this March.

“I don’t know what in the world happened. I don’t know if it was the power of the prayer or God himself, but it just reached out, either while I was driving or walking down the sidewalk or sleeping, and it just—the power of God in Jesus just grabbed me. … All of a sudden, I just believed in Jesus Christ. I did, I believed in him! … I rose up in bed and, I was by myself, and I said, ‘Devil, Devil, you bastard you, get away from me. I cast you out of my life.’ … I just got on my knees and prayed that God would put his arms around me and never, ever, ever let me go.”

Prayers up. I read an article on him recently. He was taking at least two dozen different medications a day for pain.

I'm sure there will be a movie on him someday.

Evel was just plain nuts doing those jumps on those POS Harley Davidson’s from the 70’s. Got to give him credit though...he definitely had balls.

He jumped the shark well before the Fonz did...

Hell, one jump and a bunch of busted bones would let me retire in comfort (with pain killer drugs) for the rest of my life..........

It is rumored that when St. Peter would not let him in he jumped the pearly gates. (so did Steve McQueen)
