SAN FRANCISCO, Nov 29 (OneWorld) - U.S. war veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan have announced they're planning to descend on Washington, DC this March to testify about war crimes they committed or personally witnessed in Iraq.
"The war in Iraq is not covered to its potential because of how dangerous it is for reporters to cover it," said Liam Madden, a former Marine and member of the group Iraq Veterans Against the War. "That's left a lot of misconceptions in the minds of the American public about what the true nature of military occupation looks like."
Iraq Veterans Against the War argues that well-publicized incidents of American brutality like the Abu Ghraib prison scandal and the massacre of an entire family of Iraqis in the town of Haditha are not the isolated incidents perpetrated by "a few bad apples," as many politicians and military leaders have claimed. They are part of a pattern, the group says, of "an increasingly bloody occupation."
"This is our generation getting to tell history," Madden told OneWorld, "to ensure that the actual history gets told -- that it's not a sugar-coated, diluted version of what actually happened."
Iraq Veterans Against the War is calling the gathering a "Winter Soldier," named after a similar event organized by Vietnam veterans in 1971.

If these traitors are going to “confess” to war crimes they supposedly comitted, shouldn’t they be arrested and treated like the Haditha Marines were??
"Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached." - Manuel II Palelologus
Everyone in Iraq or Afghanistan is a volunteer. Anyone complaining is either a liar, or some plant. And FR will not take long to figure out which they are...
Philadelphia is an increasingly bloody occupation due to the crime rates. So is Detroit. And, let's not forget Ray Nagin's beloved "Chocolate City." The blue states are all quagmires. We should withdraw immediately, and let them take care of themselves!
By the UCMJ...once you admit a crime...its on record, and the court-martial is very quick. You have very little defense...and these investigators have gotten very smart over the past five years. If you did a crime...admitting so...you spend time in jail, period.
Well put.
Phoney soldiers?
Then they should be arrested and charged as soon as they finish “confessing”.
Jim, put a bullet into this site's links. Danke Schoen.
Oh, Phil - nothing personal. Your heart's in the right place. But I'd rather watch my dog lick himself.
With a climate justice link, I would agree.
Will Private Scott Thomas Beauchamp be there to cover it for The New Republic?!
"...to testify about war crimes they committed or personally witnessed in Iraq."
I guess it remains to be seen if they'll be leg-iron worthy. They're elder brothers were long on allegations and short on affidavits.
oy vey...how depressing.
scumwaffle
These vets are being played like Cindy Sheehan. Look for big dem money in the background. These kids don’t have the $$$ to float this campaign.
These guys are going down like a rock in water. I guess they haven’t noticed that the world has changed a lot since 1971. We have these things called the Internet and alternative media now.
I applaud these men for coming forward to admit their war crimes. I pray their sentences will be commensurate with what crimes they committed.
This time, unlike when Kerry played his game before the Senate, I hope all that admit to crimes are arrested and prosecuted, just to give these guys a clear conscience, you know.
From a Nam Vet’s wife...
...thank you both.
It will be interesting...if not slanderous.
Give ‘em HELL!
Oh, I forgot the best part: By the time March rolls around, Iraq will be as quiet as a monastery. These guys are never goping to get our troops pulled from victory central.
You must be a woman, who has no experience with the military.
Color yourself stupid...
and liberal.
I rarely hit the abuse button, but I will now.
Assuming this ever comes to fruition (which I highly doubt), Kerry would likely try to chair some ad hoc, latter-day "Fullbright Commission". The political theatre and self-serving potential for Kerry and his MSM defeatists would be blackhole-esque in its allure.
>> “and the massacre of an entire family of Iraqis in the town of Haditha “
It would appear some antagonists need to be brought up to speed on current events. This mischaracterization is doesn’t fly.
>> This mischaracterization is doesnt fly.
This mischaracterization doesnt fly.
In 1971 all that was orchestrated by Sen. Ted Kennedy who I believe was pulling strings for Kerry the whole time he was in the Navy.
My apologies.
You are a leftist.

In the manner of Jenjis Khan?
Haven't we heard this before?
Ol' Genghis sure knew how to handle the Muslims, though....

I think RedDakota was saying “yeah- come up and tell us your “war crimes” so we can throw your sorry butt in the brig”.
I guarantee that many of these individuals will turn out to be “phony soldiers.”
For the moonbats, the temptation to embellish and to invent will be irresistible.
I think you missed the sarcasm.
Lordy!
Are posts like this going to be overlooked?

Ha! So much for the credibility of this bunch of pathetic, lying scumbags. "Iraq Veterans Against the War" are no doubt a sad sack assembly of, as we called them in the Marine Corps, "sh!+birds" - - weaklings who couldn't hack it.
dixie, may I respectfully suggest that you appear to be missing the sarcasm in DR’s post...
You’re right...if there was sarcasm there, I totallly missed it.
Please tell your friend to use the /sarc button.
Sorry, 59 year old male, 8 year 1 month and 4 days Active Duty United States Army, 5 feb 1969 to 9 March 1977, inlcuding mid July 1969 to 1 January 1971 boots on teh ground South Viet Nam, Central Highlands, II Corps, C roop 7/17th Air Cav, MOS 67V20.

Thank you, but you might want to reconsider my hue, dear.
and liberal.
Wrong again, hun.

Knock your socks off, sweetie. Afterwards, learn how to detect sarcasm. Or, at least read before blowing a gasket. Ask yourself, if I actually applaud them, why would I desire them to be tried, convicted and sentenced?
Interesting site, that us.oneworld.com. It all sounds so “kumbaya-y”.
My hope is that these vets live to regret the day that they decided to speak up.
LOL at me!
I didn’t detect the sarcasm. in your post!
I’m sorry...I thought you were being derogatory.
‘S’cuse me. ;o)
I see you’re from Washington State too. I’m in the Seattle area, and boy - talk about right in a left world! (from your home page).
One of the huge errors the insurgents made in Iraq was making it difficult for their allies in the MSM to get outside of the greenzone and take video for propagandizing Americans on the nightly news. In this regard, IEDs were truly a double-edged sword.
Lordy...I’m in the Portland area.
That might explain my built in defensiveness. ;o)
I’m sorry DakotaRed.
I misread what you were saying.
No sweat. Good to see you’re a Hunter Supporter as well. I live way down South in Vancouver. Rarely venture into Portland, too danged Liberal for me, LOL.
I read it as sarcasm - telling them to come forward and confess so they could be prosecuted.
Next summer the war won’t be an issue, so other issues have to be invented.
Interesting take...and quite plausible.
Not to worry, I replied to geopyg thinking it was you. Must be my dull platinum blonde hair, LOL
My apologies if i came across too condescending. It has been a long week and honestly, seeing all this nonsense start up again irritates me no end.
This time, we are not going to take it and will stand up to these “vets,” if they really are.
And yes, I do hope each one that says they committed a war crime is prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. No one is forced to commit such acts, but some do and try to blame others.
It’s almost officially winter, so these would be our...Winter Soldiers, right?
Thank you...I know that now. ;o)
