Republicans are significantly more likely than Democrats or independents to rate their mental health as excellent, according to data from the last four November Gallup Health and Healthcare polls, Frank Newport of
Gallup informs us:
"...Fifty-eight percent of Republicans report having excellent mental health, compared to 43 percent of independents and 38 percent of Democrats. This relationship between party identification and reports of excellent mental health persists even within categories of income, age, gender, church attendance, and education."

“duuuhhhh....I don’t get it....” </several democrat neighbors>
Well at least they know they’re nuts...
Hmmmmm! The party of victimhood, gloom and doom has poor mental health. I don’t get it!
BDS (Bush Derangement Syndrome) a contributing factor I would guess
It does kind of baffle the mind.
Captain Obvious strikes!
No doubt all that self loathing and USA loathing take their toll.
You don’t have to be crazy to vote Democrat, but it helps if you think you are.

(Okay, somebody had to say it) ;-)
I think Rush nailed it when he said that liberals are consumed with guilt. Collective guilt as well as individual guilt.
In the article, they quoted a blogger named Libby Spencer who said Republicans are happier because they suffer from “cognitive dissonance.” She accuses the right of being in denial about reality.
I’m a former leftist. As a leftist, I had problems with cognitive dissonance, and it was not good for my mental health. I would talk about how the poor were in a hopeless situation. When I’d read articles about how employers were having trouble finding people to do menial jobs, I’d have to go through all these mental gymnastics to maintain my beliefs.
As a conservative, I don’t have to do any mental gymnastics now. My views are the result of my reasoned conclusions, not the result of my worship of any public figure or my personal need to feel annointed.
What if it could be proven that George W. Bush deliberately lied about weapons of mass destruction in Iraq? Now I don’t think that’s the case, and the evidence overwhelmingly points the other way. But as a mental exercise, let us suppose that it was true. I would support his impeachment and so would most freepers. We’d say “well, President Bush seemed like the right man for the presidency, but he wasn’t. Let’s find someone better next time.”
We would accept that every person, including ourselves, is capable of making a mistake. Most of us would then go back to living our lives as best we could.
Yes, Our Man, I agree. As a lib I was confused and tangled in my own thinking, which was NOT clear and straight-forward. When the fog lifted ... everything started to make sense in the most uncomplicated way. I definitely am healthier, mentally.
Believers of Liberalism and Communism are mentaly ill people.
Liberalism is a mental disorder - Michael Savage
I personally don’t know a single conservative I would describe as mentally unbalanced, but I know a ton of liberals who are. Many of them are emotional wrecks. Just the normal daily problems we all confront send them into a tailspin.
