Dude! Have you ever looked THROUGH one?! It's the strangest thing! It looks like the sight is ON the target!....like out "there" ON the target! It's really a strange thing to see...almost holographic.

The one I looked at was on my neighbor's sub gun (H&K UMP 45 - he's on the country SRT) and we messed around with it in the driveway (unloaded! :-). The holographic effect seemed to be good for about 50 or 60 feet. Also, it wasn't very "precise". The sight elements were LARGE, but VERY easy to see and would get you on target FAST!...which I understand is the intended purpose. :-)

I have the 512 model, I believe it is. It takes AA batteries, so it’s longer, but I don’t want to be stuck looking for “N” batteries in a crunch. I didn’t spring for the NOD capable 552 model. Very user friendly, push either button and it is instant on. Goes off in 4 hours if you forget. Some folks prefer one big dot (Aimpoint) but I like the finer dot in the circle on Aimpoint. Both work. Aimpoint batteries will last for years turned on, I guess that’s good in a TEOTWAWKI scenario. In that case, I guess I’ll go back to irons and drop the EOTech, if I live that long.

My personal opinion is EOTech is quicker, and that’s what an M4 is about, IMO. ALso, it’s less of a snag hazard, more low profile and sleeker to the receiver. That is, bushes will ride over it as opposed to hanging up under the big “T” that is an Aimpoint on its mount. But my training makes me thing woods and jungles, and probably that’s not going to happen much at my age. It’s more likely going to be used to provide “over match” in a suburban one vs. gang situation, on the street. Either scope will work.

If I had the $$ and the pull, I’d get an IR laser and NODs. That is the numero uno night killer setup bar none.

Nice Babe, Nice rifle, nice sentiment.

But unless I'm holding back a storming horde; inside the close confines of my house, I'll call on Mr. Mossberg, Mr. Browning, and Mr. Wesson.

I will admit that I don’t haven much mileage on me but a sh*tload of sudden stops in my life and the older I get I think I will go to the lighter M4 Carbine. Aches and pains will drive one to such a lightweight act.......:o(

Why stop at a M4, go with a FN PS90. It's a really sweet, nifty little weapon that handles like a sports car. It's a tack-driver, and lethal to at least 100 yards, which gives you twice the range of someone with an AK47. It's also a lot of fun to shoot. It reminds me of the fun I had with my first .22, and my first M-16.

Well currently my PVS14 / Aimpoint is on one M4 w/ redi mag and a Surefire M w/ a IR Flippy Cover......house gun.

This looks like an option yet I think I will go with your choice due your reasons Travis. The AA version for OTC resupply vs “N” !

They’ll all work fine. Better 1,000 more rounds of ammo than more accessories/gun glitter.

PS go to a gun shop and eyeball the EOTech before buying. Some folks just HATE the reticle.

>>The gun carnage in America may soon overtake the maelstrom in Iraq.

More proof the surge is working.<<

Not to mention violent crime is way down in America.

And deaths in Iraq are down 8 months in a row I think...

So the question is which is decreasing fastest

Yer welcome. Glad to be of service.

I've got a source for genuine article AR mags so those don't cost me anything. They keep ending up in a buddies ruck when he comes home from drill somehow...

7.62 Match I roll at home. 168 gr Sierra BTHP, CCI primer, still got a bunch of Reloader 12 laying around, and I picked up a couple thousand Lake City NATO cases a while back so I'm all set for that.

M1A eats that load all day long....

Topped my M-4 shorty with an Aimpoint Comp ML2 for a couple of reasons. Mostly all the Eotechs were headed to the big sandy and the price was "hooo boy". But also because I prefer that big fat red dot at my age. Acquires lickety split for me anyway.

Plus I don't figure on being in a jungle anytime soon. Travis is right about the battery life. Got a couple spare sets, but I haven't had the originals crap out on me yet. Aimpoint makes a fine product IMO....worth every dime.

The only thing I won't buy from Ammoman is those Korean spec M1A mags. Nothing but Springfield OEM for my gal. Pricey, but I ain't betting my life on anything less.

Once again I am very happy to have been at your service.

Have fun heating 'em up!

I have too find a new one for the price of the one I told ya about......1700$ for a used one was not what I think is a good deal.

As stated by others here if it came with a few dozen 50 rounders etc etc ......:o)

I will try and talk down the local gunrunner !

Now is a NFA short barrel available for that rig or is the barrel FIXED for gun control purposes ?

I know they suffer from a bad rap, but I'll put in a plug for the C-More. We've got two...one on each AR here at the house. The word on the street is that they break, but I've read in practicality, they're a lot tougher than they're given credit for. The price is still acceptable at $209.00 from Dillon Precision for the Railway model (see - http://www.dillonprecision.com/content/p/8/stype/?searchVar=c-more).

The downside is their blasted teeny, TINY pot switch for turning them ON! Hoever, the pot switch has standard sized flutes, so you can get a "button" to put over it and make it easy to locate and operate under stress. But you can't use a high button, or it gets in the way of the sight! I can tell you from experience though that the switch is a pain to find with gloves on, and impossible under stress.

It's a very "basic" sight too...no "timeout" mechanism if you leave it on (such as with Eotech)! Also, if you're not thinking about it and you turn up the pot switch to full brightness, the sight is reasonably easy to see in darkness at 75 feet. We do NOT like this "feature", and fortunately, you really have to turn the pot a long way to take it up to full brightness. It's also a tad difficult to get zeroed...very sensitive to adjustments.

But I like the sight itself. It's a great "both eyes open" sight, for "about" half of what a the Eotech or AimPoint costs.

Yeah I bought TWO of em last month , the TA31 flavors w/ a Docter Hoolo sight on top of the ACOG. Got a very good deal ....sent one to little brother who is headed back to sand box in a week or soooo..... Other is on a NFA Short Barrel M4 in the safe. Am learning it’s pros and cons ......:o)

I will indeed peek at the EOtechs before dropping a dime on one !

I sure miss the it fell off a truck concept when we were active duty ........:o)

Just my opinion here... but putting an Eotech on top of a weapon pretty much makes it a CQB weapon....and it is a STRANGE “picture” inside the sight! Seriously...hop down to yer local when you get time and have a look at one. :-)

A pro point of the ACOG is always ON and the Aimpoint Comp can be turned down for use with night vision. I remember using a C More a few times, never owned one yet got to run thru a shoot house with it and liked it fine. Good points ya brought up with regards to the switches and cold weather use........
