How come it's spelled with an "X"?

Probably because that's the best you can do if you try to transliterate the sound of the Hebrew letter chet (close to the German "ch" as in "mach") into the Cyrillic alphabet.

Happy Hanukkah! My son was asking me about Hanukkah tonight. His best friend was telling him about it today at school, as he is half Jewish. I am fairly certain that his mom didn’t convert though because they celebrate Christmas too. I think I will look up the Hanukkah story tonight on the web and read it to my son. I’ll show him these pictures too! :)

Thank you for these pics, Alouette. I know I can get even more cantankerous than usual this time of year when the holiday I've given up allegedly represents "religion" while the older holiday established by the Sages of Israel is cast in the role of "enlightenment" and secularism. That makes the loneliness and memories even more painful. But you've done wonders to help alleviate that this year. Thank you.

May HaShem's Torah soon illuminate the entire world!

The Hanukkah holiday, or the Festival of Lights, is one of the most important Jewish holidays and is celebrated by Jews worldwide. REUTERS

Yet another case of Reuters getting it ALL wrong when it comes to Jews.

Hanukkah (or any of the myriad other spellings) is really a rather minor holiday, in relation to any other Jewish holidays. Of course, because of the fact that it occurs around Christmas time (it's pretty early this year, base on a lunar calendar), many people make it out to be the "Jewish Christmas."

Wow. Thanks for the support.

Unfortunately, the liberals' multicultural "war on chr*stmas" automatically makes chr*stmas holy in many eyes. (Kinda like so many conservatives have let the left's "war on tobacco" turn them into activists for the "right to smoke" even though many of them are "personally opposed.")

Conservatives should stop allowing liberals to determine their positions.
