"Huckabee doesn’t duck talking about Dumond or the larger clemency issue. But he doesn’t enjoy it, either, given that it was unquestionably the worst thing that happened while he was governor. Now, with the press spotlight shining on him, he has no choice but to explain himself."

More Information of the Wayne Dumond Story from Huckabee Website:

November 09, 2007

It has been reported that Governor Huckabee released, pardoned, or granted parole to convicted rapist Wayne Dumond. That is not true. It's interesting that Wayne Dumond's name only surfaces during an election year for Governor Huckabee. In 2002, his Democrat opponent in the midst of the general election made a political issue out the entire thing. Arkansas voters didn't buy this false attack from the Democrat in 2002 and re-elected Governor Huckabee to another term as Governor of Arkansas. Here are the facts of the Dumond case:

Governor Jim Guy Tucker gave executive clemency to Wayne DuMond, and commuted his sentence to 39.5 years. This action made Wayne DuMond immediately eligible for parole.

The parole board was made up entirely of Democrats appointed by Democrat Governors Bill Clinton and Jim Guy Tucker (who was later convicted on federal charges and removed from office). Not one member of the board was appointed by Huckabee.

Governor Huckabee never took action in the DuMond case that made him parole eligible.

Governor Huckabee either denied Wayne DuMond's clemency request, or took no action (which is the same as a denial) on four separate occasions.

Governor Huckabee did not parole Wayne Dumond. Governor Huckabee had no authority to do that. Governors in Arkansas don't grant parole-the parole board does.

The fact remains that Governor Huckabee didn't commutate, pardon, parole or grant any form of clemency to Wayne DuMond.

It looks like the Clinton News Network’s attempt to draw criticism away from Huckabee during the YouTube debate (and thus thrust the weakest candidate to the front of the national pack) is working just like Hillary! hoped it would.

Did Huckabee meet with the Parole Board on this person, and did he write the letter to Dumont ?

The case took on a political coloring when it became known that the victim was a distant cousin of Bill Clinton. After conviction, Dumond, who claimed he was innocent, asked Clinton for clemency. Clinton declined.

I had to read this several times to understand it. In this sentence, it seems to mean that the "victim" was Dumond, as in victim of the castration. Not being familiar with the case, is this the meaning? are they calling the rapist/murderer a "victim"? or am I reading it wrong?.......

I’m no fan of Huckabee, but what did he do here? He did not pardon Drumond. I actually can see why someone would feel sympathy for Drumond. The way he was originally treated stinks like an old fashioned lynching. A horrible crime, rape, but no murder. He gets a vigilante castration, then life in prison without parole. The sheriff has his ‘parts’ on his desk. So somebody showed some mercy. It is safe to say that he paid for the original crime of rape.

I think they mean the rape victim was a Clinton relative. Otherwise Clinton would have pardoned Drumond.

Some comments here, see the "reviews" too.

Not to be graphic but how does someone nutless commit rape anyway, unless it was symbolic ?

Huckabee wrote in a letter to Dumond. “My desire is that you be released from prison. I feel that parole is the best way for your reintroduction to society to take place.”

Spin it like a new top but this cannot be refuted. Slickerbee is documented as wanting this convicted rapist set free as stated in his own words in his own letter, and against the state-wide howls of protests by us Arkansans. As a result, another woman was raped and murdered by this released convict. Dumond is the Huckster's Willie Horton.

They’re talking about the 17-year-old cheerleader. The rapist is lucky he only lost a couple of parts and didn’t end up headless on the railroad tracks.

There was a lengthy article posted here on FR yesterday, and it had much more information about this debacle than the article above. If there was any doubt before about Huckabee’s manner of doing business, that article laid all doubt to rest. I have tried to find it and cannot. I am hoping another FReeper read it and will post a link here.

Huckabee met in a closed door session with the parole board and members who were present are quoted in this article. The only reason Dumont got out of prison was because of Huckabee. He is a bleeding heart, a worm, and now a liar.
He has become as frightening a prospect as HClinton. We don’t need another Liar from Hope, Arkansas in the White House.

Did his castration undo the rape he had committed?

No. The castration doesn’t mean all is OK.

And READ the article! Huckabee admits he WANTED the rapist freed...because his ‘religion’ demands forgiveness!

Then when it went wrong, he tried to PRETEND he had nothing to do with it, because the parole board beat him to it!

This highlights why I wouldn’t vote for Huckabee IN THE GENERAL ELECTION - because he misuses his faith to justify his feelings, and because he DECEIVES the public about his actions.

We don’t need another Jimmy Carter running around, making decisions for America based on his feelings about Christianity.

And we don’t need another Bill Clinton, parsing the meaning of “is”.

If Huckabee gets the nod, I’ll sit out this election - and I’ve been a Baptist for 35 years, and base my vote more on social issues than economic.

If nothing else, the intense dislike the majority of Freepers have for Huckabee means he would need to be elected with Democrat votes - he won’t get them from the republican base.

When some industrious young reporter finds someone from the parole board that confirms that pressure WAS put on them by Huckabee to parole Dumond it will be all over but the cryin.

If this is the Sink Emperor trying to flush the Huckster, it’s a weak effort at best. Mike will get dumped back into the pack in short order, and it won’t be Willie Horton syndrome that does it. A taxing, spending, pro open borders, pro amnesty type of guy won’t stand, even if he is right on abortion and claims to know Jesus. Good character comes in a whole package, and it doesn’t include pandering and plundering.
