I read the article. I googled Dumond and castration and rape and read several other articles about this case.
No, castration can't undo rape, but should every rape, even non lethal ones, involve life without parole and castration? According to another article I read, he was hogtied, forced to perform oral sex, and then castrated with a razor and fishing wire. He almost died due to loss of blood.
The sheriff who later displayed his testicles was himself convicted of extortion, rackiteering, and drug dealing.
No one was ever charged with the castration and forced sex, even though Dumond himself identified the men who did it and one of them confessed to the state police. The rape victim had her justice, where is justice for Dumond in his rape?
Besides being castrated and raped, Dumond served 15 years in prison for the rape he committed.

Interesting. Thanks for posting.

Poor guy. Just think of all the additional women he could have murdered if he hadn't spent all that time in prison.

I would be in favor of life sentences for rapists...assuming they cannot be executed.
The folks doing the castration should have been found and punished as well.

Last August, Huckabee told me he had his doubts about Dumonds guilt, and also felt sorry for him over the castration attack. On September 20, just weeks after taking office, Huckabee announced that he intended to set Dumond free, saying that there were serious questions as to the legitimacy of his guilt. On October 31, Huckabee met with the parole board. Not long after, the board voted to free Dumond, but on the condition he move to another state. Huckabee was pleased, in part because given that the board had voted to free Dumond That is all anyone needs to know about this sorry mess, the huckster, feel good liberal that he is, put himself above the jury and law in this case, And people died because of it.

Why should the facts make any difference to people bent on twisting them?
To: drjimmy
If you don't think the sentence is harsh enough, then what do you think is fair? I know, life without parole. There is some convincing evidence that the local sheriff perpetuated the rape and castration. Given that he was 'punished' by the government, I think that same government should make some sort of restitution. Letting him out after 15 years is hardly getting off light.
No one can know the future, what this guy would do in the future, remember, he was castrated. It is possible at the time that he would not be considered a sexual predator anymore. Even under eye for an eye, remember he was himself raped and castrated, HE WAS PUNISHED ENOUGH.

BTW, I live in the shadow of West Memphis, Ark. The facts as you have presented them are exactly as I remember them.

Im no fan of Huckabee, but what did he do here?I signed the [parole] papers because the governor wanted Dumond paroled. I was thinking the governor was working for the best interests of the state. Ermer Pondexter, ex-member of the board of pardons and paroles

Thank you. I was just thinking how many times do we rip on democrats for garbage they say, just for saying it.
From your link: I signed the [parole] papers because the governor wanted Dumond paroled. I was thinking the governor was working for the best interests of the state. Ermer Pondexter, ex-member of the board of pardons and paroles
Huckabee was setting policy, and they followed.

Have a teenage daughter? You would think twice if you think 15 years is good enough for having that crime committed against your precious child.

There are a lot of ‘should haves’ in this case. Drumond should not have been out on bail — he would have been safer in jail awating trial. The sheriff should have never displayed his testicles in a jar.
To: sportutegrl
What happened to Drumond prior to his conviction was appalling. I wish those who did it were caught and punished for rape and assault. If the statue of limitations hasn’t run out, then the law should be looking for them.
But that isn’t reason to parole this evil man.

’My only official action was to deny his clemency,’ Huckabee told me in Iowa.”
F***-you, governor.
Be a man and take responsibility for what you did. You encouraged the machinery of the state government to free this man. Good decision or bad, own up to it.
Your unwillingness to man-up makes me think you really are the political reincarnation of the Bent One.

Let’s not forget that DNA evidence recovered from the victim did not link Dumond to the crime. Before his release and recividism, it is not unreasonable to believe that he was set up. He had evidence that the sheriff was running an illegal car theft ring. The sheriff was eventually convicted of extortion, racketeering, and drug dealing.

Do a little more research into this story. There were plenty of people who said--to Huckabee--that there was good reason to believe Dumond was a serial rapist who only got caught the one time. And Dumond had a history of violent acts that involved not just rape. And the fact that he actually raped and murdered a woman after getting out of prison shows pretty clearly that his lack of testicles did nothing to prevent him from committing the same act that got him imprisoned in the first place.

Did Huckabee meet with the Parole Board on this person, and did he write the letter to Dumont ? The answer to your question is: yes and yes.

HE WAS PUNISHED ENOUGH. Perhaps you can convey this sentiment to the 39 year old lady that he raped and murdered.
