DUBLIN - Islam is now Ireland's third largest religion after a 70 percent surge in the number of Muslims in the country between 2002 and 2006, according to official data released Thursday.
For decades Ireland was a country of emigration but the 2006 Census showed a surge in immigration in a decade of the so-called Celtic Tiger economic boom has resulted in 420,000 of the population being born outside the country.
The arrival of immigrants and returning Irish emigrants saw the population swell to 4,172,013 -- the highest since 1861.
"Muslims are now the third largest religious group in the state" behind Roman Catholics and Protestants, said the Central Statistics Office (CSO), noting that the 2002-2006 increase continued growth seen from 1991-2002.
Overall 32,500 people said they were Muslims, of whom just over 55 percent were either Asian or African nationals, while 30.7 percent had Irish nationality, the CSO said.
It’s the muslim MO. Take over majority of populations where possible.
The Irish gave us the Kennedys. Now, they are getting their just come-uppence. (Actually, the Mussies have much more morality than do the Kennedys...so to make up for the nastiness...they get far more Muzzies.)

So the percentage of Muslims in the Irish population is now 0.78%. I think the headline is a little misleading. It’s gone from miniscule to tiny. When you’re miniscule, it’s easy to “surge 70%.”
As one who traces his roots to Ireland I’m saddened and nauseated beyond words by this story.
Like locusts, the Muslims have destroyed their own homelands and they move on to new fields where they will continue to devour until there is nothing left of value.
These European countries need to wake up on this issue or they will all end up speaking Arabic in the next decade.

European countries? I hate to break the news but the Muslim population in the US is growing commensurate with that in Europe. Only blocks away from where I live, they are building a 2 minaret mosque - this is a first in our sleepy cosmopolitan community.
Here's the real deal. Recently I read a news article describing the meeting between a Muslim Imam and an Anglican minister in London England. The Imam swept his right arm broadly, pointing out all of the church steeples in that section of London. He said to the minister: "You see these Churches? Within the next century, they will all be mosques because we are reproducing and you are not". And that is the truth! Coming soon to your American community.
Miniscule, tiny, insignificant .... use whichever words you feel best fit the percentage, that doesn't change the fact that Muslims have (and will continue) to grow in numbers in Ireland, a traditionally Christian country. As I commented to another poster to this thread, they are reproducing and "we Christians" are not. Compound that with those 'self-described' Christians who no longer practice their faith and you have an even greater potential for growth based on nothing more than a shaky faith. Whatever happens in Europe, eventually arrives on our shores, and I am seeing it firsthand with the construction of a 2 minaret mosque in our small, upstate NY community. Naturally, the local (liberal) bishop is anxious to welcome them and arrange 'ecumenical' conferences. May God have mercy on us all.

There’s that danger. You’ve made many good points. Still, to talk about “70% surge” in a subset which represents three-quarters-of-one-percent of the population looks like editorial hand-waving to me.

From what I have read from post of Irishman, is that this economic boom or Celtic Tiger is causing quite a few to leave the faith as they succumb to hedonism. Which has also allowed socialist politicians to pass legislature that one would of never seen in Ireland 10-15 years ago.
If this is accurate, the figures are stunning to me.

The invaders are taking advantage of the low birth rate in Ireland. They aren’t stupid. They read the newspapers. They saw an opportunity to take over of the country for their cult of death.

Islam is the 2nd largest “religion” in the world. Half a billion of those slimy sand rats out there. Mohammed is the most common name in the world. Scary times....
