Fred Thompson: Another Pro-Life Endorsement
Christian Broadcasting Network ^ | December 5, 2007 | David Brody

Posted on 12/05/2007 4:45:18 PM PST by ellery

Mike Huckabee, John McCain and Mitt Romney tout their pro-life credentials. But Fred Thompson keeps getting key endorsements. Check this out below from the Christian News Wire:

Today, at a press conference in Columbia, South Carolina, Fred Thompson received the endorsement of South Carolina Citizens for Life.

"South Carolina Citizens for Life is pleased to join in National Right to Life's endorsement of Fred Thompson for President of the United States," said Holly Gatling, executive director. "We believe Fred Thompson is the pro-life candidate in the strongest position to defeat pro-abortion Rudy Giuliani and then to defeat the pro-abortion Democrat nominee."

Read the whole story here. You know, Fred Thompson has had his stumbles for sure but what's unfolding here is that Thompson has positioned himself as the 'mainstream conservative". Romney may argue that point but he's got baggage. Thompson has a much lighter backpack.

Listen, Thompson's firewall is South Carolina. He has to do well there. He has to do well in Florida. At the same time, he has to make sure he doesn't fall off the map entirely in Iowa and New Hampshire.

ping — I sense a growing realization among pundits that this race is still wide open, despite their previous predictions to the contrary.

I think, thanks to Huffington Post (blech!), that good old Fred will be getting a very nice bump in the polls once the media sinks their knives into Huckabee. :)

The race is just beginning.

This should help to solidify his position in South Carolina.

Go Fred!

GOPGuide,

I agree, Huck may fool enough people in the Iowa caucuses to have a good showing, but I suspect he’ll sink like a rock soon after that. Fred is already laying the groundwork for a big win in SC.

I suspect as the SC polls start to show momentum for him, the rest of the national polls will improve as well.

It won’t hurt when Huck gives up his 12-14% mostly to Fred.

Thompson or no one.

He’s the only conservative.

I don’t use that word lightly either. I’ve stated he has the most conservative record. I’ve called him a “conservative politician”. After his definition of a conservative on Rose’s show coupled with the internet speech he released when he first announced and the totality of his life’s record, I’m coming around to the thinking he is a conservative. Not a movement one in the way Reagan was, but in his own way principled on conservatism. I’d kinda given hope one would materialize.

Thompson has this pro-lifer’s vote. Huck may be a proclaimed Christian, but he doesn’t think with his head and is entirely too liberal.

Huck is sinking himself. With the Wayne Dumond incident, his pantywaist position on Gitmo, and the list goes on.

Huck’s gonna drop Dean-style in the next couple weeks.

I'm getting more attached to Thompson and/or Romney. We saw the result of "compassionate conservatism". That resulted in compromise with the left, getting spit on, and never fighting back when attacked by a political enemy. That's over for me.

Politics is a different realm than religion for a reason.

How is Fred doing in SC and Florida? I suspect very well as we never hear about any polling from those states.

The polls are all over the place in SC. Over the last 3 weeks, he's been reported as everything from 4th to tied for first with Romney.

Florida seems more consistent, with Rudy in the low 30s in most polls, and Fred in the pack in the mid teens in a virtual tie with Romney and Huckabee.

Thompson or no one. He’s the only conservative.

Thompson is the only candidate in this race with the potential to be a truly GREAT president. I don't think anyone is under the illusion that Romney, Huckabee or Guiliani has the same potential.
