Chavez Turns Bitter Over His Defeat in Referendum
Washington Post ^ | December 6, 2007 | Juan Forero

Posted on 12/06/2007 9:45:49 AM PST by 3AngelaD

BOGOTA, Colombia, -- Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez on Wednesday used a four-letter expletive to dismiss the opposition victory in Sunday's referendum and pledged to press forward with plans to approve constitutional changes that would expand his power in one of the world's leading oil producing-countries. Chavez's remarks, made on television programs broadcast in Venezuela, represent a sharp turn from his magnanimous comments Monday after voters narrowly blocked 69 constitutional changes in a national vote... "We didn't lose anything. Prepare yourself because a new offensive will come with a proposed reform -- that one, or transformed, or simplified," he said.

...He said that with enough signatures, he could propose another referendum, "in other conditions, in another moment." Addressing his foes, he added: "I wouldn't sing victory, opposition misters."

The comments came after Venezuelan newspapers reported Wednesday that Chavez ceded to his foes in the pre-dawn hours Monday only after high-ranking military officers pressured him to do so....

He also said that if the opposition had risen up against his government during the referendum, he had a plan in place to take anti-government television stations off the air and confiscate their equipment....the president continued to sound triumphant Wednesday, saying, "I haven't been weakened, nor have I been pushed back one millimeter." He also had harsh words for his archenemy, the Bush administration..."Check because your fist could be wounded," he said, in comments directed at the United States, "You could have a fractured finger."

His Prozac has worn off from Monday and he is now showing his true colors. And, oh no, not the dread fractured finger. Wonder what word he used.

Leftists think average people are just plain stupid and ignorant. They won't give up taking away their freedom from them - for their own good.

This man is a megalomaniac fruitcake.

He will not go quietly in the night.

The fight has just begun.

I expect to see new controls and military force brought out to control all those who do not tow the line.

Chavez has already brought in foreign troops from Cuba to do some of his dirty work.

If his Venezualan opposition does not mount a good political offensive now to further hamstring this nascent dictator-for-life, they will have lost their timely chance for decades.

On these occasions when we see the voters rise up and collectively vote in the general direction of sanity, I am reminded that the principles of a democratically run society truly are the best of the all the less then perfect choices.

Of course Hugo will now kill a lot of people to get passed this moment of sanity, but hey, there was a moment.

Funny...my fingers feel just fine. Maybe stinging a little from spanking somebody, but it'll wear off.

Good to see Huey in his customary statesmanlike form. This one was embarrassing but he still has everything he needs to get whatever else he needs. He just can't have it all at once. You can't keep a good thug down.

Thanks to Jimmy Carter & his ‘Rat cohorts, we no longer have the capability to supply a solution to the Chavez problem ... a 7.62 mm solution, right between the eyes. Let’s hope there’s someone in the Venezuelan army now that loves freedom more than ‘Ugo hates the Yanqui, and can provide that solution.

Chavez thinks he is Castro. He’s not even Juan Peron. In reality, he reminds me of a certain Louisiana politician of some decades back who promised to make “every man a king” while calling out the National Guard on his opponents. Maybe old Hugo will go the inglorious way of Huey Long: getting shot by his own bodyguards in the course of being “protected” from a disgruntled former supporter.

Anyone who thinks the recent vote is anything more than a temporary setback for Chavez is mistaken. He is still scheduled to remain in office for several more years. He is not going to let an election stand in his way from becoming Outh America’s Castro,
