A 70-year-old man working as Santa Claus says he was sacked from a Cairns department store for saying "ho, ho, ho" and singing Christmas carols.
In a case of political correctness seemingly gone mad, retired entertainer John Oakes says he was fired from his job at Myer for his rendition of Santas famous laugh.
His employer, Westaff, last month sparked national outrage when it ordered its Santas to say "ha, ha, ha" instead of "ho, ho, ho" because it could be derogatory to women but denied the words were a factor in Mr Oakess case.
The word "ho" is also American slang for a whore.
"Theyre trying to kill the spirit of Christmas," Mr Oakes told The Cairns Post yesterday, just days into his fourth year as Myers Santa.
"But after my shift on Monday, I got a call from my manager telling me my services were no longer required.
"I hadnt done anything wrong so I asked her why, and she said, You said ho, ho, ho and thats not appropriate.
"She also said I wasnt supposed to sing, but I was only singing Jingle Bells to get the kids to laugh for their photo.
"Its just ridiculous and everythings changed because of the new rules."

maybe a kangaroo fart will save his job, I hear they are powerful
And the real Ho said, "Here I am!"
he clearly overdid it. he should have simply said “ho”.
We can actually thanks the gangsta rap groups for this. Of course they can say it all they want on their albums.
This is ridiculous! Ho Ho Ho was used before “Ho” was used as slang for a bad name for women. For God sake, use your brain people!
You know, I never think of myself or any of the other women I know, when I hear the word “ho” whether it’s Santa laughing or in any other context. How insane to be worried that it would offend women. How many friggin years has Santa laughed “ho,ho,ho” and not even the whores were offended.
Please tell me this is satire. You can’t write decent satire anymore. Real life is such a farce, how can you satirize it?

From the link at #11:
“The Don Imus-Rutgers incident exposed the slang term Ho to the general public as a slur for whore. Santas dialogue in any conversation begins or ends in Ho, Ho Ho! and the probability of a child having been exposed to the Imus story is greater than not. Santas favorite euphemism could be construed to have an alternate meaning which could confuse a child, Dr. Huma-Humpur said. There might be a question in a childs mind that Santa is spending time with a bunch of prostitutes, she added.”
Okay, the link that you posted is marked as satire. The first link seems real, though the store said Santa was fired for a bad attitude.
The media is missing a key part of the story. Apparently this Santa is a born again Christian and said “God bless you” to the children, to the horror of his secularist employers. This was apparently evidence of a “bad attitude” deserving the flick. Looks like the phony ACLU inspired Church v State “Christmas War” in the US has well and truly infected Christmas down under.
