Navy chaplain pleads to forcible sodomy

QUANTICO, Va., Dec. 6 (UPI) -- An HIV-infected U.S. Navy chaplain who pleaded guilty to forcible sodomy was sentenced Thursday to serve two years in a military prison.

Lt. Cmdr. John Thomas Lee, 42, of Burke, Va., accepted a plea agreement with prosecutors that suspended 10 years of a 12-year sentence, dismissed him from the Navy and required him to forfeit future pay and benefits, the Baltimore Sun reported.

Lee, a Roman Catholic priest, admitted forcing himself on a gay Naval Academy midshipman whom he counseled and to having sex with an Air Force officer without disclosing he was HIV-positive.

During his court martial at the Quantico Marine Corps base, Lee said he had known he was infected with the HIV, the virus that causes AIDS, since at least 2005, but said he used a condom.

Prosecutors had sought a 15-year sentence for Lee, who was ordained as a priest in 1993 and began serving as a military chaplain in 1996. He had been charged with aggravated assault, indecent assault, fraternization, forcible and consensual sodomy, and conduct unbecoming an officer.

Lee could have been sentenced to life in prison if found guilty of the forcible sodomy charge alone if there were no plea agreement.

Civilian prosecution should be brought promptly. Nasty degenerate, not a care for the life of those he was endangering physically and spiritually! Don’t ask don’t tell? Hah, this demon needs to be told.

Two year for what amounts to attempted murder? Give him the whole 12 years.

Let's see if I have this straight. A Navy chaplain? A homosexual midshipman? (I guess no one needs to ask in this case.) Who, exactly was the Air Force officer?

Has this guy been excommunicated?

The article said he could have gotten life, and that’s what he deserves.

The only thing to do with a person like this is to execute them. If you leave them out of prison, they will attack the public, if you put them in prison, they will attack the prisoners.

It’s a shame, but the only answer seems to be extermination.

I am beginning to yearn for the days before the internet. This would have been a local issue and I wouldn’t even have to know about it. And he probably would have received the full sentence.

Your right on that. don’t ask , don’t tell don’t even criticize the action or life style But theres a lot more for society to acknowledge. This is an abnormal minority group that is being pushed upon the rest of us, and it’s posing as normal and it’s telling us that were all wrong for opposing it, and this is normal behavior. It’s not, It’s wrong, It need’s to be called what it is, and it needs help.

“Just when I am conflicted about re-joining my faith again.”

What has John Thomas Lee to do with your faith? You either accept or reject it. The Catholic faith has been besmirched by its members for centuries, but it has not changed its teachings. John Thomas Lee DOES NOT represent the Church.

In all fairness, don’t only look at JTL but also at the goodness of the many saints and martyrs that have represented the church and are still doing it today. Get rid of your tunnel vision. For every JTL there are many members of very good will.

Two years is a travesty sentence for this crime. He should of, at the absolute least, gotten the 12 years. He deserves life at hard labor at Leavenworth.

The article said he could have gotten life...

... which appears to be correct.

Maximum punishment (1) By force and without consent. Dishonorable discharge, forfeiture of all pay and allowances, and confinement for life without eligibility for parole.

... and that’s what he deserves.

Agreed.

If LCDR Limpwrist is HIV-positive, two years might just turn out ot BE a life sentence.

He is not a pedophile.

Pedophiles prey upon minor children. Chaplain Rumprider had adults as lovers.

He is a homosexual.

That’s what the Drive-bys don’t want people to know: they’re homosexuals. I will never use the “G” word to describe these monsters.

So, he’ll be out and free as a daisy in a year. Nice. No doubt when the AIDS blows up, he’ll be on the citizens back for ten grand a month in care, housing, food stamps.

And we should have gays, bi’s, transsexuals, ect in the military, or at least have a committee tell the President what to do, according to a famously smart GOP candidate.
