Hes the closest thing to Irving Berlin the Rock Era had.
That’s sad, IMHO. I can’t compare the two, I’m sorry.
“Are there really a lot of soldiers who take the time to write letters to Billy Joel? Why do any?!”
Probably the same “soldiers” who used their mom’s credit card to send $20.00 to Ron Paul and checked off “military.”
I was guessing Tom Brokaw...
Too much dane-bramage and anyway, things aren’t going well for that crowd. But, the man’s smart enough to give the song to someone else to take the hit. Plausible deniability?
I can understand why Billy Joel didn't want to be the performer remembered for singing this juvenile rhyme.
Plus it's several years behind-the-times.
About the only good thing I can say about it is that the proceeds from sales of the song will go to a worthy cause.
What other American songwriter has written more standards in the last 35 years or so? By that I mean songs everyone knows. Most people think songs like ‘Just the Way You ARe’, ‘NY State of Mind’ and ‘The Longest Time’ are actually 40 or 50 years old. Berlin himself liked Joel’s music.
