A federal appeals court Thursday sided with a Kansas woman who believes that God’s hatred of homosexuality requires her to picket funerals for American soldiers holding signs that read “Thank God for Dead Soldiers” and “God Blew Up the Troops.”

At least the writer of this article seems to know all these Phelps church members are Democrats, can't say that's true for some of the readers' comments.

Free speech has NEVER been absolute. For the idiots at the 8th Circuit, let's point out that funerals are not a public forum and no one is allowed to disturb the private reflections of mourners. You don't have a right to push in your nose where you are not wanted. End of story.

She hates homosexuals, so she's picketing military funerals? That's like picketing Sun Microsystems HQ because you hate Windows XP.

“the Missouri legislature passed a par of laws that prohibited picketing near a funeral location or procession. “

Some laws should not be needed.

I find it amusing to see liberal judges sanction homophobic bigotry just to get back at the military.

Constitutionally, I believe you do have that right. Morally, I think it's reprehensible!

Perhaps if these geeks quit getting all the press coverage, and they were just ignored, they'd give it up.

Of course, that isn't going to happen.

Okay...now here’s an idea.

You have issues with homosexuality and you want these issues made public in a way that will most attract attention.

How about this? Take your ridiculous joke of a church financed by just who?...and go to...hey, how about, just throwing it out there...SAN FRANCISCO!

These people have parades and festivals where people walk around completely naked wearing nothing but paint. I’m thinking you’re a right-wing nutcase wanting to make your point...well right there normal heteros are going to be shocked.

Do these kooks really think that Americans are going to make the connection between dead US soldiers and homosexuals for God’s sake?

Or are they just trying to bring the funerals to America’s attention under the disguise of a nutzoid church that is every Moonbat’s concept of an evangelical type of chuch?

Hmmmm...well they CAN’T film those coffins arriving at Dover air force base anymore, the sight byte that halted the Vietnam war and made us walk off in disgrace.

Gotta have some way to insinuated pics of dead soldiers on the American consciousness.

Hey....protest homosexuality at solders’ funerals...that’s the ticket. You get two for one this way...you make America hate a nutty rightwing church which we know they all are...and we get dead soldiers on the TV.

It’s win-win.

The inability for a family to bury their child in peace is reprehensible and violates a basic tenant of humanity. Soldiers pay a much higher price than judges in the service of our Country. I doubt the judges would be sympathetic to similar protests where their honor was the target of the hostility.

But the Boy Scouts don't get freedom of speech. They get kicked out of public buildings, they're not allowed to march in hometown parades, and they get run off by the cops while conducting charity work in public because they're not being brainwashed into good little liberal greenies. Makes a hell of a lot of sense (NOT).

If it’s a strategy to bring the war deaths into the public eye to gin up more opposition to the war, it’s a doggone poor one I’d say. Any end-the-war sympathy the church-that-must-not-be-named might garner for the servicemen and their families is instantly drowned out by the shock value of the rest of their message. I see them as ironically highlighting how honorable the soldiers’ missions were, as compared to their juvenile schoolyard taunts. Also, the P’s can’t visit anywhere near the total number of such funerals that are happening.

Also, I don’t think the MSM needs any help. The MSM might not be able to film current caskets, but they have enough footage of prior ones to use as a background to announcements of the current deaths — “little dishonesties” like that are as nothing to MSM.

I agree. For some reason we, as a people accept way too many ridiculous state and federal court decisions. If we only fired (read: impeach and convict) a couple dozen of these clowns, these judicial tyrants every year, there would be far fewer decisions such as this.

But answer me this....why don’t these people insinuate themselves somewhere where the disgusting behavior of homos is very evident?

If they really had a mission all they have to do is...I don’t know, attend someone of those homo parties in San Francisco.

There’s way more to these Moonbats than meets the eye. Where are they getting their money? They seem to be travelling all over the country after all.

I’d say they shy away from highly-homo venues because the “gay lobby” is far less forgiving than the patriotic crowd. They would get their lights punched out and worse. We’ve seen what happens to mainstream evangelicals who merely preach individual repentance at these venues.

What this means is if you are an anti-american left-wing fascist pig faced Nazi you have the right to free speech. However, if you are a real American and want to tell the left where to go you have NO right to free speech and anything you say will be considered hate speech or some other kind of against the left-wing fascist anti-American law. Besides this is NO Church it is a group of pimps and whores.

Actually the 8th Circuit is probably one of the most Republican courts. Fourteen out of eighteen were appointed by either Reagan or the two Bushes.

Do I really need to write that it is despicable for anyone to interrupt the obvious private moment of departing with a loved one?

Why don’t these nuts go to San Francisco and do their thing.
Why are they targeting America’s most valiant?
Why are “our” judges allowing this?
This is appalling.

The Phelps gang is not a church, it is a lawyer power-cult, using insult and abuse as their symbols of status and dominance. Fred himself is a disbarred lawyer, and 9 of his 13 children are lawyers. Three of them are employed by the Kansas Department of Corrections.

This is probably why judges are willing to grant them more consideration than they would give other hate-mongers. Imagine, for example, uniformed neo-nazis routinely desecrating Jewish funerals or KKK thugs in robes showing up across the street from a black funeral.

Federal judges abuse of their authority sends us further down the slope to national suicide. Our rights are being used to destroy the fabric of America. Had the founding fathers of this country been able to see what is going on, there would have never been any Bill of Rights. Nor likely any USA. Why work so hard to create such a cesspool?

In this case, the panel found that Missouri’s law was likely unconstitutional because “any interest the state has in protecting funeral mourners from unwanted speech is outweighed by the First Amendment right to free speech.”

It seems to me that if they don't want to legislate decency in this case, they need to stop trying to keep people from hurting other folks feelings with these insane "hate speech" rulings.

Better yet, they will be bankrupt! A jury in Maryland found for the family of a soldier who had been slandered by this group, and hit them with a judgment of several million dollars. It's now under appeal, but ultimately the late soldier hero's family will prevail and drive this scum into bankruptcy.
