I would love to know what kind of provocation the parents consider justification for nine teenagers, most of them male, to engage in a near-fatal attack on one young woman. Not that I believe that such provocation occurred.

Maybe she “looked funny” at them and shouldn’t have or didn’t “look funny” at them and should have. I would wager the real reason for her savage beating is either this or something equally ridiculous.
It has to be Bush’s fault.... we didn’t have this problem before Bush Jr....
She sat down when they told her not to, apparently. That was their ‘justification.’
They realize they have reached critical mass, and they can prey upon The Man without fear of reprisal - all they have to do is play the race card and they walk.
According to an earlier thread one of the parents is claiming that the young woman used the n word and spit at them. Do I believe this? No.
Only a hate crime if it were 9 white kids attacking a black women. ;-)
I wonder if it would be a “possible” hate crime had 9 white kids attacked a black woman.
Evenn if she did, it does not justify a physical attack upon a woman, or even a man.
We saw this on TV last night. The poor woman had to be taken to shock-trauma. They showed a phot of her face, and the reporter said her face will never be the same again. This is not the first time vicious little thugs from this middle school have caused horrible damage to someone.
Unfortunately (sarc) for the parents, there is surveillance video from the bus. Police say there is no evidence of provocation. Also that initially the kids made NO claims of provocation.
Sounds like the parents came up with it after the fact to defend their little darlings.
A 26-year old woman “spitting” at a gang of teenagers (mostly boys) and using the “N” word in the presence of an African-American bus driver? Doesn’t sound likely.
Yes, it was a “hate crime” committed by the white lady. She smashed all of their fists and feet with her lips and eye sockets. I’m sure she attacked them all with her face and hurt their knuckles.
If the authorities had not been afraid that it would deter whites from riding the buses, they would have done nothing. And they still might do nothing, other than talk.
And these kids were released to their parents ... why ? The same parents who think their little darlings can’t possibly do anything like this.
Can’t wait for ‘Hymietown’ Jackson and ‘White interloper’ Sharpton to blame whitey.
Even if they are convicted of a hate crime, they will receive no meaningful punishment. They are minors.
