Hmmm...I wonder if Dubya has taken a page from The Gipper's playbook.
My memory is fallible, but this sort of reminds me of the course
of events surrounding the Pershing missled deployed in Europe by
NATO on Reagan's watch.
When Reagan got tired of all the grief from Western Europe and
said something like "OK, we'll just shut down all the missle
programs in Europe"...the next day the weeping-and-gnashing of teeth
and headlines of "USA: DON'T ABANDON US!" were all over Europe.
So when Dubya essentially announces "we're not going to do a
d-mn thing about Iran/nukes"...suddenly the allied countries
go into Public FREAK-OUT! mode.
(but honestly, I'm afraid Dubya is tired after 7 long years and
might just let Iran drift on and let the next administration

Bush doesn’t have the political capital to attack Iran and a full scale assault on Iran would be foolhardy. The world needs to wake up. We can’t do this on our own because there are limits to American power, despite the fact that our Armed Forces is the best in the world, bar none.
