BEDFORD, N.H. -- Edwards distanced himself from actor Harry Belafonte's controversial comments on George Bush and Hugo Chavez at a house party today. Belafonte endorsed the former North Carolina senator in Charleston, S.C., last night.
"I speak for myself, as I always do, and you know, Harry Belafonte supported John Kennedy, supported Bobby Kennedy, and supported a whole host of presidential candidates over the years. I'm proud of his support, and I thank him for his support, but he doesn't speak for me," Edwards said in response to a question about Belafonte calling the president a tyrant and rallying in support of the Venezuelan leader.
In January 2006, Belafonte called Bush the "greatest tyrant" in the world and reassured Chavez that "millions of the American people" support him.

Boy, they sure have kept this endorsement quiet. John Edwards doesn't sound too thrilled to be Harry's new "Top Banana".
Wonder why?
Must be those nasty-ass nose hairs.
This vcoming from the most irreverent actor of the past 40 year. A 1 song wonder that hasn't amounted to anything but the tratorious pig that he is today! Jimmy Carter has stiff competition!
Indeed, he does like Hugo Chavez. He supported Harry Truman...and Woodrow Wilson...and George McClellan...and Andrew Jackson. He didn't endorse Thomas Jefferson because Jefferson owned slaves. When Washington was elected, Bellafonte said things shoouyld be more partisan than this. He campaigned for King George III...
ROFL!
Hey Mr. Tally Man
Tally The Endorsements.
Harry Come and
Breck Want him gone home.
LOL :)
Hey Washed Up “Singer”
Why don’t you move to Utopian Venezuela and tally Hugo’s banana?
It’s more like “Hey Mr. Taliban...”
Funny, but I thought Bela'fonda' was an Obama fan. Guess I was wrong.
Edwards plans to roll out yet another big name celebrity endorsement later this week: A guy who knows someone whose cousin worked with a guy who went out with a girl who had an uncle who once met Jackie Gleason.
Anyone that close to “The Great One” would be influential, in my estimation.
2 songs- Banana Boat, and I think Jamaica goodbye-?
Pompous old asshat, though, and never met a white man he didn’t hate, deep[ down.
That could be a detriment to Edwards. No one wants to line up with a coward commie like Belefonte is!
Hey Mr. Tally Man play with my banana!
