President Bush said we want Osama bin Laden “Dead or Alive.”
President Huckabee will grant him a full pardon.

You joke, counterpunch, ;-), but terrorists whether in dank caves in Pakistan or in high class dachas with dancing girls near the slopes of Mt. Paektu, have internet, satellite, TV and couriers.

Believe me, they are watching the US elections closely.

They wonder what is in store for themselves from 2009, and if things will get rough or if they will have a pushover.

We might always want to put ourselves in the shoes of Kim Jong il or Hugo Chavez or Osama Bin Laden, and figure out who they would most fear in the Oval Office. And vote accordingly.

Sometimes clemency is a solution. I wonder if those who got off the hook and went straight will come to Huckabees defense. I’ve visited some people in prison, and many of them are kept alive with a hope that their sentences will be reduced. It’s difficult, I hate to disqualify a man just because he believed that some people behind bars had gone through a metamorphis and changes of them doing the same thing were nihl. I tend to be lenient and give people the 2nd chance. I guess that is why they have executive priviledge, so that they can on certain recommendations over ride the sentence of the court.

Good points, good points rovenstinez.

Well, let us get into it and investigate.

Let us see with the recidivism rate was for the folks he set free. That would be an excellent study. I would not be afraid of its ultimate results, either way--although I have my own conjecture.

I guess Huckabee supporters either don't care about this, or they feel they may need a pardon down the road.

Is there any wonder the Left is pimping this boob?

Clemency for armed robbers? Clemency for somebody who beat a man to death with a pipe in a bar? Clemency for the murderer of a minister?

I notice you are relatively new here. Primary voters are certainly entitled to all information about a possible candidate they are voting for. So far, most posters on this thread haven’t done anything but express dismay at the number and nature of the pardons that Huckabee granted, not to mention the personal connection he had to several of them.

Doesn’t that bother you in the least??

Surely you jest? Who cares if they were violent repeat offenders, he pardoned murderers. What part of murder are you not understanding? So they didn’t get out of prison and kill someone else yet, so it is ok? Once you murder another innocent human being outside a mutually combative or self-defense paradigm, jail is where you belong.

I must concede that I also am against life sentences. Spending the rest of your life in prison is no life. I think if you receive a life sentence they should just put you down after 5 years, especially when the evidence is irrefutable. Give that 50k a year it costs to house and imprison these scum back to the taxpayer.

Dear Wayne:

I am the governor and I want you to be free. I can arrange that, if you promise not to rape any more cheerleaders. Will you try to be a good doo-be? Please think about a life without rape and murder, OK? Would that be alright with you?

Huck

For example, he said a person with a hot check violation is prevented from being a nursing assistant.”

Well now, writing a hot check is a far cry from beating somebody to death with a pipe, now isn't it?

I'll ask you again. Doesn't it bother you whatsoever that he had personal ties to many that he pardoned?

BTW how long have you been pro-Huckabee?

He DID want to do it. He announced his intention, and then, by law, had to wait 30 to 90 days to make the final decision. But the public objected. Four days before the deadline, the parole board gave DuMond parole. Only after that did Gov. Huckabee send the letter to DuMond that said,(in effect)....Dear Mr.DuMond: Since you are getting paroled, you no longer need me to commute your sentence.

So we should just let Huck ride to the top and say nothing? I have been told I was trashing Rudy, Fred and now Hucklebee. I seem to have hit the trifecta. I am not sure about Mitt they usually just post me some info to try to put a spin on whatever I posted.

No one is trashing anyone. If you as a Steeler fan, posted Tom Bradys statistics, or wrote about one of his bad games, that isn’t bashing. Hucklebee has had a lot of bad games and Tom Brady isn’t running for the leader of the free world.

What does that matter? At least several of his early releases/clemency/commutation/etc. cases DID repeat offend - with the most notorious of the cases Huckabee had a hand in - Dumond, not only re-offending, but then murdering in the state Huckabee brokered the release too.

Unlike Clinton, there isn’t even a suggestion that huck did it for contributions or to cover up a personal crime

Please read the article!

A pastor who promoted Huckabee among blacks urged the governor to grant clemency to John Henry Claiborne, who was sentenced to 100 years for a 1994 armed robbery, according to a 2004 report in the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette. Huckabee made Claiborne eligible for parole after receiving a letter from the Rev. Charles Williams, who told the newspaper he had helped win "many, many" clemencies from Huckabee.

Sure, we can save resources and dump juries, since their decision is wrong. Does anyone think that the intent of the executive pardon system is to willy-nilly decide which convicts have a minister friend and which do not?

Perhaps Arkansans can tell us also, what kind of judges did Huckabee appoint? With these pardons it almost looks as if Huckabee was more soft on crime than Clinton!

Yawn. Nice try but you still don’t win the Kewpie doll.

Find a credible source that points to Reagan pardoning twice more convicts than his previous three predecessors combined, pardoning some of them for votes as well as personal relationships, and we’ll talk.

So, an article describing verifiable actions of a former governer who is running for POTUS and exposes his ENORMOUSLY high rate of pardons along with the relational circumstances surrounding many of them should be minimized or ignored by those reading?

Please newbie. Don’t blame me if your guy’s past leniency can’t stand up to voters scrutiny and standards. If his actions as governor generate concern about his judgement , why shouldn’t we quite reasonably be concerned about the MUCH more weighty decisions he’d be making as POTUS??

How defensive you are to call my posts “attacks”. There’s blood in the water on this issue and it’s by the Huckleberry’s own hand....over and over again apparently.

BTW, do you read taglines?

Huckabee denies any such pressuring and notes that it was his predecessor, Jim Guy Tucker

That is one tendency I've noticed with Huckabee -- he tends to blame others, rather than taking responsibility for his actions.

I can see a lot of valid reasons for all of this. First, Huckabee can just be one of those Christians who really takes the forgiveness and mercy aspect of the religion to heart.

People with some contact to him get pardoned? Wow, whooda thunk it? You can’t pardon someone you’ve never heard of, and having some kind of personal contact method helps you hear of them.

This minister? It’s not vote buying. They obviously get along well together minister-to-minister. Williams knows how to talk to Huckabee to get across that someone has changed. Williams of course looks after his flock, so will bring people he thinks deserve clemency to Huckabee.

I believe Huckabee is an honest man, and all of this can be explained simply by him having bleeding-heart liberal tendencies.
