Okay, so if Fidel and Janet are Elian’s fathers, then who is his mother . . . on second thought I’m not sure I want to know.

Well, maybe Fidel is light in the loafers and Janet is heavy in the loafers, and, uhhh. Necking in the back seat of a fifty Ford at a Havana drive in (if there is such a thing)... Too much imagery, too much info...

I think I will go outside and sit in a snowdrift until my head reboots.

And what was this you said, “I was young I would have loved to be in a land surrounded by 55 Chevys.” I’m pretty sure they were still finalizing the design of the Model T when YOU were young! (just kidding)

>>As the celebration of our Lord's birth approaches, I am reminded of how He so eloquently carried on the Jewish tradition of "telling stories" and I think that is what those who reported have done. They told us Terri's story, she became real to us all, she became more than a statistic, more than an anonymous victim of the culture of death, she became the face of hope and passion.

The timing is fitting as we recall, the event ending Terri's life matched apace with Easter, Holy week, and with sometimes incredible parallels.

Ahem... My first car was a 51 Studebaker of which I was deeply ashamed, as other friends had 50 Fords and Mercs. I sold it for $12 and bought a 50 Chevy hard top convertible for $65.

My dream car was a 56 Chevy or a Ford Crown Victoria in pink and black, but that was way beyond my means. Dad would slip me a dollar for the weekend date but I would have to bring back the change. My buddy and I figured out how to save money, so we took our dates to the passion pit (drive in theater for those younger than I..) and we put our girl friends in the trunk to save some money. But then we got caught and had to tell the authorities we didn't know the girls. After that they didn't want to go out with us anymore and wouldn't even say why.

Wimmin!

Don’t forget about Tori Schmanski. She is very similiar to Terri Schiavo and there is a large and growing movement for recovery in a small reagion of Utah. Tori gets lots of support.

Thanks, tutstar, for the ping to this heartwarming story of Heisman Trophy Winner Tebow. Thread by sopater,

University of Florida quarterback Tim Tebow became the first sophomore in the history of the NCAA to win the coveted Heisman Trophy as the best football player in the nation. However, Tebow's accomplishments may never have been supported had his mother followed a doctor's recommendation to have an abortion. With 29 passing touchdowns and 22 rushing touchdowns, Tebow displayed the kind of versatility that has become more valued at the quarterback position.

"In an email exchange afterwards, Maxam made it very clear she was not supportive of Terri Schiavo or her parents' efforts to protect her life."

She may of said that, but I don't believe that is how she really feels. It just doesn't add up. If it didn't mean anything to her she would've dropped it a long time ago. Unfortunately Terri is a very small market to waste time on to someone who does not care about the above. I agree, she is tough to figure. JMO

Maybe I am just completely stupid though.

As we have been saying all along, this author encapsulates it.

White Martyr

..........................................

Terrible injustices sometimes mark turning points in the political history of Nations. I pray that Terri’s death becomes such an event; an impetus for a new coalition for life, family, freedom and solidarity. If it does, Terri’s martyrdom will not have been in vain.

LOS ANGELES (Catholic Online) - The news out of Pinellas Park, Florida broke the hearts of all decent people. It shook us to the core.

Terri Schiavo was dead, intentionally deprived of food and water, with the force of the raw power of government holding the hands of the executioners.

She was killed deliberately, by starvation and dehydration. No Court, Legislative body or Chief Executive had the courage to stop this killing. She was deprived of her substantive due process rights by every branch of government.

Terri was not dying. She was not receiving any "extraordinary medical treatment." She was being fed and given water, as many disabled people are at this very moment, with assistance. She had trouble swallowing because she was disabled by damage to her brain.

She would have lived for many, many years, bringing great joy to her family and changing the world. But now she is dead; killed by the complete abject failure of a system that has lost its soul.

The Greek word for "witness" is "martyrion". In our use of the word over all these centuries of Christian history, we have emphasized those who shed their blood for the faith. However, there is also a tradition of "white martyrs", those who live sacrificial lives that change the world.

That is what Terri did. None of us will forget her smile. We all adopted her beautiful family. We now mourn her loss and share, at least a little, in their deep pain. We must also become outraged at the sheer evil of this killing and we must act.

Terri Schiavo is a martyr. She had her life taken away by the enforcers of a New Rome. Remember, the old Rome also had an elaborate system of courts and a highly developed legislative system. It prided itself on its culture, its arts and its claims to "civilization." Yet, it legally sanctioned horrors such as the practice of exposure, where children, the disabled and other "unwanted" persons were left on rocks to die by exposure to the elements or to be killed by hostile passers by. We now do the same.

The killing of Terri Schindler must mark a turning point in American history. Terri was killed while "the law" was unwilling to intervene. Her death stripped away the veneer of civility painted on the face of the current culture of death. It was a diabolical event, plain and simple.

The rejection of the inherent value of every human life as a foundation of our whole understanding of ordered liberty is a clear and present danger. We face a serious risk to both life and liberty when reference to the truth is removed as the measuring stick for our behavior. Authentic freedom has been replaced by a counterfeit. The very foundation of decency is shaken.

To honor Terri, we should dedicate ourselves to the long term work of building a new society, a culture of life and civilization of love, where the dignity of every human life will be the polestar of all public policy; marriage and family will be protected as the first mediating institution and defended against those who aim to replace and eradicate them; authentic freedom will be exercised in reference to truth and within a moral constitution, and our obligations in solidarity to one another, and most especially those who have no voice, will be upheld by elected and unelected public servants.

With all the talk of the "religious influence" in America, the martyrdom of Terri Schiavo reveals the lack of a national soul. Terri was killed in a manner reminiscent of past evil regimes.

I am reminded of the old adage attributed to the English Philosopher Alisdair Macintyre who, commenting on the decay in English society, once said "The Creed of the English is that there is no God but it is proper to pray to him once in a while." Without reference to the Source of unalienable rights, the One who placed the hunger for true justice within every human heart, we have become unmoored as a Nation.

Terrible injustices sometimes mark turning points in the political history of Nations. I pray that Terri’s death becomes such an event; an impetus for a new coalition for life, family, freedom and solidarity. If it does, Terri’s martyrdom will not have been in vain.

Terri Schiavo, Martyr

Fred and Terri tar baby dailies...

Washington Post sets the MSM tone again with this. Right-to-die??? Uh huhhhh.

............................

Fred Thompson may yet win the Republican presidential nomination next year. But if he doesn't, his story is likely to be that of a perfect opportunity squandered.

~Snip~

All of which might have been fine if his performance upon entering had been flawless. After a summer when his still-unofficial campaign was plagued by defections and turnover, his announcement tour was widely panned as flat and vague. And he quickly annoyed the religious conservatives who had placed their hope in him by not supporting a federal amendment to ban same-sex marriage. He made several early gaffes -- suggesting that it wasn't important to go after Osama bin Laden and saying that he didn't know enough to comment about the Terri Schiavo right-to-die case.

Bad Timing

Muy rubio...

................................

Republican State House Speaker Marco Rubio, R-West Miami, is opposing key policies of Gov. Charlie Crist (R) on Indian gaming rights and climate change. He’s also trying to one-up the popular governor on property-tax reform by throwing in with a citizens’ petition movement to bypass the modest relief passed by the Legislature and signed by Crist.

~Snip~

Huckabee is unlikely to win Florida’s Republican presidential primary Jan. 29, although it’s possible. It would be more than that if one out of every 18 Floridians didn’t have ties to New York State, Rudy Giuliani’s home.

But Rubio joining hands with Huckabee keeps Rubio as the alternative to the anemic Republican status quo, and, again, without playing the eccentric rebel like Ron Paul. Ironically, association with Huckabee needles Rubio into territory thought to be Crist's exclusive terrain -- the populist margins of the GOP. It's little known yet, but Huckabee's GOP opponents will soon alert everyone that Huckabee as governor of Arkansas sometimes resembled Crist as governor of Florida. Both men are willing to use government to fashion policy, instead of always apologizing for it.

The point isn’t that Rubio is some shoo-in to catapult to Florida governor or other high positions one day. Only that he’s playing his cards as shrewdly as one can in Florida, where legislative term limits choke off budding political careers just when they’re growing some stalk.

He’s nurturing name ID all over, and slowly coaxing Florida’s right wing back from out of the shadows following the Teri Schiavo fiasco and the rout of Tom Gallagher in last year’s governor’s race.

............Already we've seen science form the basis of some of the thorniest public policy issues in recent history, from the fate of Terri Schiavo to the fate of evolution in schools and the fate of the Earth. some of the thorniest public policy issues in recent history, from the fate of Terri Schiavo to the fate of evolution in schools and the fate of the Earth.

Herein lies the problem with this as I see it:

Evolution vs. Creation: I've never seen ANYBODY change their mind on this subject, they either believe one or the other. And I very much think the danger of Darwin is not so much his theories of nature, but his and his families eugenics beliefs.

The "fate of the Earth": By this I assume they mean global warming. Again, INTELLIGENT people have already made up their minds on whether they are going to believe hype.

Terri: Despite everything, NOBODY on either side ever suggested that Terri was in any danger of dying if she was allowed to have nutrition and hydration. The only thing to "debate" is whether society has the "right" to arbitrarily decide which lives are "worth living" and since both the Constitution and Declaration of Independence strongly come down on the fact that the right to live is endowed by God, there is still nothing to debate.

This case has a parallel to the plight of Terri!

I hope all get a chance to check it out in this thread by wagglebee just posted.

A legal battle is raging in Manitoba between doctors who want to take an 84-year-old man off life support and his family who says pulling the plug would be tantamount to murder according to their religious beliefs.

Samuel Golubchuk's family says it would be a sin under the Orthodox Jewish faith to "hasten" his death by removing the ventilator and feeding tube.

"They believe that an intentional act which likely will result in death is murder," said Neil Kravetsky, the family's lawyer...............

Fred and Terri tar baby dailies...

In this instance the author offers an explanation as to why it sticks.

.......Thompson was given no time to get his act together when he finally stepped into the spotlight as a full-fledged presidential candidate. Because he started late with sky-high expectations, the national media were after him from the beginning, pointing out his every misstep—and admittedly there were a lot of them. After speaking in Iowa, he had to ask an audience, “Can I have a round of applause?” In South Carolina, he actually said, “We need to do more of what is working and stop doing what isn’t working.” On Iraq, he made this profound point: “The solution is to do whatever we need to do, whatever is necessary to stabilize that place.” He seemed to dismiss Osama bin Laden, describing him as “more symbolism than anything else.” His first trip to Florida was really ugly. Among his faux pas, he couldn’t recall the details of Terri Schiavo’s right-to-die case. He was keeping a light schedule too and, when he did make appearances, he didn’t answer many questions from voters..................

What’s the Matter with Fred?... How media image-makers are killing Thompson’s presidential bid—with a little help from the candidate himself

The Terri supporters who were stunned that nobody saved her completely dropped out of activism and stopped voting. Disabled people are afraid they’re going to get it someday. That’s the message her murder sent. The people were betrayed. Politicians and judges were superior to legal, moral and religious principles. The rule of law now outed as a total sham if there was ever any doubt.

Well, Maxam went to Terri's Gulfport Mass and so did Berlin. More impressive that Fr. Pavone was there. Pope John Paul had just passed away himself).

More impressive was that Glenn Beck was there with his wife. (He mentioned seeing me there the next day on the radio. It was the saddest memorial I'd ever attended and I gestured to the family who sat next to Glenn. I guess I looked torn to Beck cuz I was). We were all shocked and torn. Except maybe the aforementioned pair.

Person in question emailed me that Terri was dead because of the religious wackos (words to that effect).

I would say the truth be told, it was the degenerate judicial system. Person wasn't even around in 2003 in which Terri got a reprieve after starving/dehydrating for shy of ten days. Saving lives and exposing euthanasia as the worst corporate Amerika has to offer cannot be copyrighted.

I may have that email but unless it is demanded for "proof" I won't post it.

Money and power killed Terri, not the faithful or the unfaithful. Terri had millions of supporters, apparently, said person who is against exploitation of Terri has been exploiting Terri all along, well, after jumping on the bandwagon somewhat late. Above is MY OPINION and what I happen to know for fact. End of topic for me.

When the person in question first showed up at FR, offering to print stories that favored Terri, and asking for financial contributions in exchange, I had a bad feeling about her. I’m sad to see that my initial assessment of her character (or lack thereof) was accurate and has remained so.

Your perceptions took awhile to come to fruition but gee, you were right. Nice to see you posting tonight.

Golly, maybe gay doesn't mean happy like it used to. We straight guys are happy, but with that logic maybe we should call ourselves sads to show we are happy. Maybe I am puzzled, maybe not, but that bunch showed up in force to rail against Terri living. Hmmm, odd. This blurb comes from the wash blade. Anyway this guy rummaged in the attic for the freshest mantra he could find, scraped off the mold, and wiped it free of any drips of truth and tried it out again. Too bad new mantras aren't selling on eBay right now and the old ones are not collector items yet.

Since that is all in their arsenal, the left has little choice but to wave them and choke on the mold spores.

Good thing for him I am about the only straight to read this, and just may be driven to Huckabee by such rattling.

You can point to the disproportionate number of Department of Justice employees who have graduated from none other than Rev. Pat Robertson’s law school as an example of this influence. Then there was the inappropriate White House-backed intervention in a personal family matter in the Terri Schiavo case. Add that to the successful appointments of two very conservative Supreme Court justices as well as other anti-gay administration appointees who were the darlings of the religious right.

Separating state from the church Gay... For gays, keeping Huckabee out of the White House is a must.

Recycling Mantras for Dummies...

This guy found another decomposing mantra in the attic.

If he'd wanted to work this building into VMDO's design, he could easily have done so. Instead, he's given your readers an unpleasant display of partisanship bordering on hackery. If this house is a patient on life support, Bob Moje is as qualified to pronounce on its condition as Bill Frist was to pronounce on Terri Schiavo's.

Coleus has a thread on the powerful discovery of a researcher, one that cuts quite literally to the core of Life...

Kyoto, Japan (LifeNews.com) -- Dr. Shinya Yamanaka of Kyoto University made international headlines recently when he devised a new process that allows for the creation of embryonic stem cells without the destruction of human life. Now, Yamanaka says he was prompted to search for ethical alternatives by his own conscience. Invited by a friend to take a look at a human embryo -- a unique human being -- under a microscope, Dr. Yamanaka had a moral spark that changed his career.

“When I saw the embryo, I suddenly realized there was such a small difference between it and my daughters,” the father of two told the New York Times today. The glimpse into the beginnings of human life motivated him to seek out alternatives to the destruction of human beings for their stem cells for research............

Canterbury Tails...

Thread by wagglebee on a high and mighty who had not yet read the thread, above, by Coleus:

Dr. Williams, however, did not say that there was any universal moral principle at work that absolutely prohibits abortion, but implied that such a prohibition would apply only to Christians and that a possible legitimate exception for legal abortion could be in cases of pregnancy due to rape..............
