Minuteman Project Founder Endorses Mike Huckabee
Fox News ^ | 12/11/07 | staff

Noting that he might not agree 100 percent on immigration with Huckabee, the firebrand illegal immigration opponent said Huckabee's recently released immigration plan won him over.

"The governor has a plan and I appreciate his plan. That's why I'm supporting him. He's one of the few who's actually brought forth a plan and gone public with it. It shows to me that he's willing to engage in the tough love necessary to fix this problem," Gilchrist said.

Gilchrist, whose organization is separate from the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps, has drawn protests in appearances at college campuses in recent months for his views on strict illegal immigration laws. Unlike the MCDC, whose primary role is to park volunteers along the U.S.-Mexico border to report jumpers to Border Patrol agents, the Minuteman Project calls attention to enforcement of state and federal laws relating to immigration.

Huckabee last week announced a get-tough immigration plan, proposing to construct a border fence with surveillance cameras by July 1, 2010, calling for an increase to the number of Border Patrol agents and imposing steep penalties on employers who hire illegal immigrants.

Well Jim, this is about the point where you jump in and say the you are endorsing former Mayor Guiliani and if he is not nominated you are prepared to back the Democratic ticket and take a job as communications director in the First Bubba’s office after Hillary’s election.

This is like a chicken endorsing Colonel Sanders.

Now that's a good one.

Why Huckabee is Rudy’s stalking horse and he’ll do just enough to nuetralize Romney and suck the oxygen out of Thompson’s campaign.

Like George S Patton endorsing Ron Paul

Like Chuck Norris endorsing anybody but Chuck Norris.

If Huckabee get the nomination it will neutralize the illegal immigration issue. Neither Huckabee nor the democrat will talk illegal immigration. Helllo, new world order!

Gilcrist just lost a lot of money. He is a fool if he thinks people are going to keep on giving after the election if either one of the liberals get elected. Otherwise, illegal immigration should be a deciding factor in the election.

The only marginally logical explanation I can see is that Gilchrist thinks that Huckabee is better than Giuliani (on immigration, etc), and that - on the basis of polling and MSM coverage - Huckabee has the best chance of beating Giuliani in the primary.

He's probably trying to endorse someone who is near the top in the polls rather than endorse someone that at this point doesn't have much of a chance of winning the nomination.

That leaves him with trying to pick the best of a bad lot on immigration.

The GOP is self destructing by offering such a weak candidate, which will lead us to 4-8 more years of a Clinton.

I've thought for sometime now that this IS the plan. ;*(

Which Bush states does Huckabee lose to Hillary in your estimation?

This is just wrong. Gilchrist doesn’t know Huck’s pro-illegal history?

Exactly my first thought. How in the world can any in tune to the immigration issue NOT know of Huck's absolute pro-illegal stance? Huck would be worse than GWB on immigration. This is a bizarre endorsement. Nonetheless, I have confidence that the Huckster will not get the nomination.

and that - on the basis of polling and MSM coverage

Then he is too stupid to take seriously about ANYTHING!

“He’s probably trying to endorse someone who is near the top in the polls rather than endorse someone that at this point doesn’t have much of a chance of winning the nomination.”

then why is he wasting his time scanning the border with binoculars? - if he cares that little about his own principles it makes his entire work with the minutemen incredible.

Does he know the Huck endorsed in-state tuitin for illegals in the last debate. No nuance, just straight up he’s for it.

Unbelievable! Didn't he do any homework?

That plan is in no way a product or a reflection of Mike Huckabee. If he liked the plan so much, he should have endorsed the person Mike stole... [oh, pardon me] borrowed it from. Mike did not even tell the man he planned to use it before releasing it.

If Huckabee get the nomination it will neutralize the illegal immigration issue.

I realized this about a week ago. I think that the game that the RNC is playing is to get someone pro-illegal nominated. If both candidates are pro-illegal, it removes it as an issue in the election. That allows the RNC to pander to the illegal aliens who will be voting once they get amnesty rammed through without any inconvenient electoral threat from the party base, at least in the short term. I think this is a strategy to avoid a repeat of 2006.
