Things are so bad for Sen. Joseph Lieberman right now that in addition to suffering the endless slings and arrows of outrageous progressive politics and journalism, Al-Jazeera has taken to calling him a neocon.
Now that's rich. He's called an independent, but continues to waddle and quack like a liberal Democrat, as he did recently at Torrington High School where he approvingly told students: "The government is going to affect your lives whether you decide to get in to affect it or not." And if lefties like Joe Lieberman get their way, government will affect people profoundly.
He is shepherding a climate-change bill that would cause the cost of electricity, gasoline and home-heating fuels to spike. The measure resembles the Kyoto Protocol, which he opposed when the Senate passed an anti-Kyoto resolution 95-0. He also is co-sponsor of the Health Americans Act that would mandate the creation of state bureaucracies to act as clearinghouses for health coverage for the uninsured, yet another Democratic camel-nose-in-the-tent move toward wildly expensive and inefficient socialized medicine.
Meanwhile, he continues to enjoy high marks from such lefty groups as Americans United for the Separation of Church and State, Big Labor, the American Civil Liberties Union, the National Organization for Women and, Planned Parenthood. But the American Conservative Union, The Club for Growth, Americans for Tax Reform and the National Taxpayers Union still rate him just a hair to the right of Dennis Kucinich.
We appreciate Sen. Lieberman's unwavering support of the nation's military and enjoyed the recent well-deserved tongue lashing he gave the Democrats' "politically paranoid, hyper-partisan" base. But anyone who thinks Sen. Lieberman is moving to the right is just plain wrong.
Ping to a Republican-American Editorial.
If you want on or off this list, let me know.
I’ve always admired Sen. Lieberman and Mrs. Lieberman, as well. And what al-jeeratya thinks is of no interest to me.
I am one of those who had that thought about Joe moving right. I appreciate the information and have already totally changed my ill conceived ideas of Joe Lieberman.
Well, he's standing still while all of his compatriots are moving to the Left. Since the media's perspective is from a seat on that same Leftward-moving bus, Lieberman appears to be moving Right. Just an optical illusion. ;)
He’s a liberal who is right on one issue.
Wear it with pride Senator Lieberman. They don’t call you a neo-con until they’re desperate for ideas.
"Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached." - Manuel II Palelologus
“waddle and quack like a liberal Democrat”
Doesn’t he mean “oink like a liberal democrat.”
He is the last patriotic, hyper liberal Scoop Jackson democrat in the Senate, no more, no less.
Lieberman is more conservative than a fair number of RINOs.
Neo-con = liberal speak for Jew. So, in a sense, they are correct.
Neo-con isn’t exactly liberal mediaspeak for Jew, it’s an anti-Semitic slur more akin to the word “kike.”
You may not like it, but that's absolutely true and sound advice.
You are right when you say: “But anyone who thinks Sen. Lieberman is moving to the right is just plain wrong.”
If he had a brain and some ethics he would have pulled a Jefford’s switch and we wouldn’t have to watch all these
demo-rats and their lousy leadership of all the Congressional Committees.
UGH!!!!
Double Ugh!!!
When you think his party tried to get rid of him by supporting his challenger in Ct. Primary.
I don't know what point the author is trying to make here. The notion of a meddlesome, intrusive government is completely compatible with most of what is called a "neo-conservative" political philosophy.
Most neo-conservatives are big-government, nanny-state globalists . . . which fits Lieberman to a T.
Good summary. I admire his supporting the war effort against the overwhelming tide of his party ... but weighing that against his support for partial-birth abortion ...
Well, it's a good thing God does the weighing, in the end.
I can agree with you on that to a point. Lieberman also supports the following which is neither neo (new) nor conservative:
"just a hair to the right of Dennis Kucinich.", pretty much describes Lieberman and if it weren't for his stance on the military and not being an America hater, you wouldn't be able to tell him from Kucinich.
If he ever switched parties he'd be right up there with the worst rinos we already have.
Oh, I agree, but didn’t feel like typing that out. It’s amazing that they say it, but the average Joe has no clue what the word means.
I don’t think it’s particularly amazing, since those lower life form cretins that employ the term demonstrate perfectly what I’ve known for over 20 years, that liberals are the biggest racists and bigots on the face of the earth. You hear those knuckle-draggers call in the talk shows both on tv and radio ranting and raving about neocons, Israel, etc., and it’s like the Nazis never died, they just moved into the Democrat party.
